Willis Newcomb and Bart Carroll head a gang engaged in smuggling wanted-American criminals back into the United States from Mexico. Operating from Sharperville, an oil town on the American side of the border, they transport their human cargo in oil drums loaded on trucks. Border Patrolman Tom Sharper intercepts one of the trucks but is overpowered and left for dead. Carroll, having already been paid for the job and not wanting any evidence to walk around, get caught and lead back to him, backs the human-cargo trucks to the edge of a cliff and sends the drums crashing to the boulder far below. Judge Cookie Bullfincher and Border Patrolman Roy Rogers conduct a search for the missing Tom, but the crooks have gone back for him and find him in a state of amnesia. They rob the bank and pin it on Tom. It is now up to Roy to clear his friend and also put an end to Carroll's human-smuggling racket.

00:00:30Sing a song for all the boys along
00:01:00along the far frontier.
00:01:03The lads we hate who ride the border train
00:01:08along the far frontier.
00:01:11When the history of the West is written
00:01:15to the world it will be clear
00:01:19there's glory in the story of the Border Patrol
00:01:24along the far frontier.
00:01:29Hey, get them cows out of the way.
00:01:43You're blocking our road.
00:01:45Hey, don't let them down.
00:01:49We'll move them for you.
00:01:51Where are they taking them?
00:01:54They buy them here in Mexico
00:01:56and take them across the border.
00:01:57Those fellas are sure in a hurry to get somewhere.
00:02:06Somebody must want that load of oil awful bad.
00:02:08Round them up, fellas, and get them back into the road.
00:02:18You better watch yourself.
00:02:20That patrol shack's just around the bend.
00:02:27I got a load of soybean oil.
00:02:41Let's have your papers.
00:02:43Here they are.
00:02:45You'll find everything's in order.
00:02:47Okay, where are you headed, Sharperville?
00:02:49Yeah, that's right.
00:02:57Let's go.
00:03:27That border cop's chasing us.
00:03:57He's cut off the road.
00:03:59Step on it.
00:04:01I can't go any faster on these curves.
00:04:28Put that thing away.
00:04:30Use your head.
00:04:32You know what the boss said about killing patrolmen?
00:04:34Yeah, but what about those barrels?
00:04:36Only we can bluff our way through.
00:04:39I thought you said you were heading for Sharperville.
00:04:42You heard me right.
00:04:44That's what I said.
00:04:46Well, for your information, you're heading for Alamo.
00:04:48Maybe I've changed my mind.
00:04:50Maybe I have, too.
00:04:52I want to inspect your cargo again.
00:04:54Hey, wait a minute.
00:04:55You can't do that.
00:04:57You checked us through once.
00:04:59What do you think you are?
00:05:17You'll be out for a week.
00:05:19Yeah.
00:05:21Let's get out of here before somebody sees us.
00:05:23Move that horse.
00:05:30Hey, Tom!
00:05:32Tom!
00:05:35Nobody home.
00:05:37I wonder where he is.
00:05:39He knew we were coming back through at noon.
00:05:41He couldn't be too far away.
00:05:43He brought the lunch like we asked him to.
00:05:45Well, he sure wasn't at the Mexican patrol office
00:05:47when we passed it down the road.
00:05:48You're right.
00:05:50And if I know Tom, he'd never leave his post
00:05:52unless it was something important.
00:05:54I don't understand it.
00:05:56Me either.
00:05:58We've got to get those cattle to water.
00:06:00I'll leave our clearance papers here and write Tom a note.
00:06:02Here.
00:06:07Okay, Johnny.
00:06:09Bring them on.
00:06:18You know, Roy,
00:06:20Tom's old man had better not hear about us
00:06:22bringing these cattle through without Tom checking them.
00:06:24You know what a stickler the old guy is for discipline.
00:06:26You're right.
00:06:28And if he does hear about it,
00:06:30Tom will be getting one of those lectures
00:06:32he used to give us when we were kids.
00:06:48Come on.
00:07:19It was about time I was getting fed up
00:07:21on this crummy pal.
00:07:23Everything's okay, Bart.
00:07:25We had to slug a nosy border patrol cop
00:07:27to give us quite a chase.
00:07:29What'd you do with him?
00:07:31Well, he wasn't dead, so we dumped him
00:07:33off the side of the road.
00:07:35Oh, um, we lost one of the drums.
00:07:37Lost it?
00:07:39That's bad.
00:07:41Well, we're back in the USA.
00:07:43Hey, you the boss?
00:07:45Yeah, that's me.
00:07:49Come on.
00:07:56Joe's missing. Where is he?
00:07:58Boys tell me the drum he was in
00:08:00fell off the truck.
00:08:02Listen to you.
00:08:04You promised to get us all through safe.
00:08:06Stop squawking.
00:08:08You knew this was gonna be a rough deal
00:08:10when you get into it.
00:08:12Listen, cowboy.
00:08:14Take it easy.
00:08:16We'll go back and pick him up.
00:08:18The border?
00:08:20You sure nobody knows how we got back
00:08:22into the country?
00:08:24Just us.
00:08:26Driver tells me he had a little tough luck.
00:08:28Border patrol officer got on his tail
00:08:30and he had to slug him.
00:08:32So what?
00:08:34So it makes it more risky for us.
00:08:36It also makes it more expensive for you,
00:08:38about $5,000 worth.
00:08:40Today's payday.
00:08:42Listen, you.
00:08:44This smells like a shakedown to me.
00:08:46And when our friends hear about it...
00:08:48Okay.
00:08:50$5,000 you say, huh?
00:08:52That's right.
00:08:54Come on, let's have a little conference.
00:09:00Okay, you got us cold.
00:09:02We're ready to pay off.
00:09:04That's better. Everybody back on the truck.
00:09:06Give me a hand, boys.
00:09:08Keep those lids on tight.
00:09:14We won't quibble over a few hundred.
00:09:16Thanks.
00:09:18Why you...
00:09:20Get in your barrel.
00:09:22Okay, okay.
00:09:24Rocco.
00:09:27That missing passenger is gonna change our plans a little,
00:09:29so I'll take over from here on in.
00:09:31You go with me.
00:09:33You're asking for more trouble than you can handle.
00:09:35Wait till our friends hear about this.
00:09:37You're scaring me to death.
00:09:49Hey, Bart.
00:09:51What about that threat of making things tough for us?
00:09:55They got a surprise coming.
00:09:57A nice bumpy ride they hadn't figured on.
00:10:10Hey!
00:10:12If this is the end of the line,
00:10:14let me out before I smother.
00:10:16Don't worry.
00:10:18You won't smother.
00:10:19Let's go.
00:10:20Let's go.
00:10:48The last of them.
00:10:51We ought to get a medal for this.
00:10:53Those guys are all wanted by the law.
00:10:55Yeah, we saved those government guys a lot of trouble.
00:10:58Here's your half of that extra five grand.
00:11:01No use turning into the boss.
00:11:03He wouldn't understand.
00:11:21Okay.
00:11:22Here you are, miss.
00:11:32How'd it go?
00:11:33Perfect.
00:11:35Got your message okay.
00:11:37Brought your bird back.
00:11:39Well, this may seem a lot of trouble to you, Bart,
00:11:42but in our particular form of endeavor,
00:11:44we can't afford to let you down.
00:11:46I'm sorry.
00:11:47It may seem a lot of trouble to you, Bart,
00:11:49but in our particular form of endeavor,
00:11:51we can't be too careful.
00:11:53Telephone communications can always be fast.
00:11:57You carry a pigeon?
00:11:59Well, that's different.
00:12:02I assume you took care of our clients?
00:12:05Slick as silk.
00:12:07They had a little run-in with the border patrol officer
00:12:09before I took care of our friends.
00:12:11Well, that's bad.
00:12:13You didn't kill them, did they?
00:12:15No, of course not.
00:12:17Well, I'll bet he don't feel so good right now.
00:12:24Know who it was?
00:12:26Tom Sharper.
00:12:28That young Tom Sharper?
00:12:30Yeah.
00:12:31Sorry it wasn't his father.
00:12:33Boys said he got in the back end of the truck
00:12:35and started fooling around with the drums.
00:12:37If that's the case, we're out of business for a while.
00:12:39The border patrol will check in
00:12:41every oil drum in the country.
00:12:43You're right. We'd better take it easy.
00:12:45That's all we can do.
00:12:47Let's go.
00:13:17He gave me a pillow and said learn to ride
00:13:20I jumped on that pony and oh how I cried
00:13:23It started to gallop and jumpin' around
00:13:26It's now been eight years and I still can't sit down
00:13:34A cowboy's livin' is far from the best
00:13:40But don't get me wrong for I still love the West
00:13:43On Saturday night I dress up like a dude
00:13:46And I go out of court and I'm just in the mood
00:13:49When we get to town I meet up with my pal
00:13:52He borrows my money, walks off with my gal
00:13:58A cowboy's livin' is far from the best
00:14:04But don't get me wrong for I still love the West
00:14:16That hat will never fit my head now!
00:14:19Maybe it would if you'd stick your head in the machine.
00:14:29Hey, hey, which one of you young sprouts
00:14:32is Roy Rogers? Huh?
00:14:35Guilty, sir.
00:14:37Well, we'll let the judge decide that.
00:14:39Here, I touched you. That's for you.
00:14:41That's a subpoena.
00:14:43Subpoena?
00:14:45Yeah.
00:14:46What's the matter?
00:14:47I don't know nothing about that.
00:14:49But Judge Wolfenscher told me to fetch you in alive.
00:14:52So come on, get in here,
00:14:53because I don't want to be late for my biddle.
00:14:55If you don't mind, I think I'll ride Trigger.
00:14:57What say you?
00:14:58I say I think I'll ride my horse Trigger.
00:15:00Well, just as you like.
00:15:02Don't you stop to do any wool-gathering on the way, son.
00:15:04Cross my heart.
00:15:05All right, that's good enough for me.
00:15:06Say, Pat.
00:15:07Huh?
00:15:08Did you fight in the Civil War?
00:15:10Was I in the Civil War?
00:15:13No, I wasn't.
00:15:14But this car was.
00:15:19Get up.
00:15:20Oh, I kicked the wrong horse.
00:15:22Where is that thing?
00:15:33I wonder what Cook is up to,
00:15:34sending me a subpoena like this.
00:15:36I don't know.
00:15:37But you better go to town and find out.
00:15:39Yes, you're right.
00:15:40As soon as you're through bailing you and the boys come on in.
00:15:42All right.
00:16:10Oh.
00:16:16Just how fresh can you be?
00:16:18Miss!
00:16:25Gee, I'm sorry, Miss.
00:16:26I suppose you got that mud on your gloves from making mud pies.
00:16:29Well, honest, it wasn't me.
00:16:30It was...
00:16:31If I ever get the chance to, I'll...
00:16:33I'll...
00:16:34Take it easy.
00:16:35Here.
00:16:37Oh, you, you...
00:16:38And that goes for your horse, too.
00:16:45Wait a minute, Miss.
00:16:46Your paper.
00:16:47Son, that just shows you
00:16:48what circumstantial evidence will do.
00:16:50Well, she certainly convicted me in a hurry.
00:16:52Hi, Mr. Newcomb.
00:16:53Glad to see you, Roy.
00:16:55Too bad about Tom.
00:16:56Is that why you're here?
00:16:57You wouldn't be surprised.
00:16:58This is gonna be pretty tough on Tom's dad.
00:17:01I hear he hasn't been feeling well lately.
00:17:05Well, he's out now.
00:17:06You can find out for yourself.
00:17:08Roy, I'm sure glad to see you.
00:17:10Glad to see you, too, Al.
00:17:12Sorry to hear about Tom.
00:17:14That's a terrible shock, Roy.
00:17:16Can't even find a trace of him.
00:17:18When you crossed the border in the morning after those cattle,
00:17:20did he say anything to you that might give us a clue?
00:17:23No, not that I remember.
00:17:24Try and recollect.
00:17:25It's important.
00:17:27You were the last one across before he was reported missing.
00:17:30Well, there was a truckload of oil drums
00:17:31that crossed the border just ahead of us.
00:17:33Didn't they report it?
00:17:34No.
00:17:35And you know I can't help but think
00:17:36there was something crooked.
00:17:38No son of mine would desert his post.
00:17:41Pretty evident that he did, Al.
00:17:43He left his station and shirked his duty
00:17:45and just skedaddled.
00:17:47Newcomb, 32 years ago,
00:17:49when I was United States Marshal, I ran you in.
00:17:52If you say that about my boy, I'll do it again.
00:17:55How can you?
00:17:56What I said about Tom was the truth and you know it.
00:17:58Don't say that again.
00:17:59My boy is innocent.
00:18:01Tell him, Roy.
00:18:02You can't tell me because you don't know.
00:18:03Your boy deliberately deserted his post.
00:18:08Al!
00:18:11Take it easy, Al.
00:18:12Leave me alone.
00:18:13I can handle it.
00:18:15Break it up, Newcomb.
00:18:25Why don't you mind your own business?
00:18:33Wait.
00:18:57Wait.
00:18:58I've got enough.
00:18:59Give me a hand.
00:19:03Come on.
00:19:11I'll give you a hand.
00:19:15Here it is.
00:19:23Attaboy, Roy.
00:19:25Attaboy.
00:19:26Are you all right, Roy?
00:19:28Sure, Al.
00:19:29Let me give you a hand.
00:19:33Come on.
00:19:45You're going to regret this, Al Sharper.
00:19:48I'll get even with you if it takes the rest of my life.
00:19:54Come on.
00:19:57Don't you think you're a little old for this kind of stuff?
00:20:00Confidentially, yes.
00:20:03Don't tell Newcomb.
00:20:05Are you stopping at Judge Bullfinch's?
00:20:07That's right.
00:20:08Well, I'll be down to see you as soon as things quiet up a bit.
00:20:10Good.
00:20:11See you there.
00:20:23Have they found Tom yet?
00:20:25I don't think so.
00:20:26Good.
00:20:27Get your men and find him before they do.
00:20:29Of course.
00:20:30I don't think that's a...
00:20:31Get your men and find him, I said.
00:20:34I'm going to make Al Sharper regret he ever had a son.
00:20:53You swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you?
00:20:57Yeah, I do.
00:20:58Jeb?
00:21:01You got the fine mess of fish there?
00:21:03Yep.
00:21:04Big hole down by the falls?
00:21:07Yep.
00:21:08What'd you use?
00:21:09I ain't going to tell you.
00:21:10You've been trying to find that out for years, Cookie.
00:21:12I ain't going to tell you.
00:21:13Jeb, you're under oath here.
00:21:15Now, are you going to tell me what you were using, or is Jim going to take you down to jail?
00:21:19Well, I don't want to go to jail.
00:21:21Well, then tell me.
00:21:23Well, I'll tell you.
00:21:27Big, fat worms, Dad.
00:21:29Blame it.
00:21:30I've been using them fancy flies and...
00:21:33and season, of course.
00:21:34Big, fat worms.
00:21:36Well, in view of the fact and all the evidence here,
00:21:39court finds you guilty of catching fish out of season and fines you $5.
00:21:44But gosh, Cookie, I only got a dollar.
00:21:47All right, Jeb, it'll just be a dollar then.
00:21:49Is that all?
00:21:50That's all. Case dismissed.
00:21:52Except I'll take charge of the evidence here.
00:21:55So long, Cookie.
00:21:56So long, Jeb.
00:21:57So long, Your Honor.
00:21:58So long, Jim.
00:22:01Your next case is here, Judge.
00:22:03Well, I haven't any next...
00:22:05I wish you luck. He's in a bad mood today.
00:22:09Come on, Jeb.
00:22:11Uh-oh.
00:22:18Judge, before you try this case, I want to talk to you.
00:22:21Yes?
00:22:23He dead?
00:22:24Well, I never heard of such a thing.
00:22:26I'm back and I'll let him have it.
00:22:29The court finds you guilty of mayhem, assault and battery,
00:22:33and insurrection and sentences you to 10 years, maybe 11.
00:22:36But Judge, wait a minute.
00:22:38You're mad at him, aren't you?
00:22:39Well, yes, I'm mad at him, but not that mad.
00:22:41There wasn't that much mud.
00:22:43Well, you've had a change of heart.
00:22:45Well, as long as you don't want to send him to jail,
00:22:47you might as well meet him.
00:22:48Susan Hathaway, this is Roy Rogers.
00:22:51Oh, Roy Rogers, Tom's friend?
00:22:54That's right.
00:22:56I'm really awfully sorry this happened.
00:22:58So was Trigger. He told me to apologize for him.
00:23:01Of course.
00:23:02Uh, Roy, you want to stay and have, uh,
00:23:04a little evidence for dinner with us?
00:23:06You look mighty good, Cookie.
00:23:08Brian, Chris, will you soon?
00:23:10All right, Judge.
00:23:16Headline in that paper is the reason I sent you the subpoena, Roy.
00:23:19I wanted to have a talk with you.
00:23:21If Tom is in a jam, I'll probably have to sentence him.
00:23:26Sit down, will you?
00:23:28Thanks, Cookie.
00:23:30What kind of a jam?
00:23:32Well, you know about him turning up missing and everything.
00:23:35Well, the only thing they found was that note
00:23:37that you left for him at the patrol shack.
00:23:40Well, I guess Tom didn't come back.
00:23:41The note was still there.
00:23:43Well, well, Alf's taken it pretty hard.
00:23:47You know, he practically owns the whole town
00:23:49and how proud he was of Tom.
00:23:51Yeah, I know.
00:23:52I was just recently reminded of that.
00:23:54What happened at the border, Roy?
00:23:56Well, all I know, Cook, is we saw Tom
00:23:59when we crossed the border early in the morning.
00:24:01He said he'd have something to eat for us
00:24:03when we came back for the cattle.
00:24:04But when we got back, he was gone.
00:24:06So we left our clearance papers and the note for him.
00:24:09Beats me.
00:24:10Have they organized a search yet?
00:24:12Well, they're working on that now,
00:24:14and I'm sure glad you're here in time for it.
00:24:19Men, I think the best thing to do on a manhunt like this
00:24:23is to fan out.
00:24:24We'll go as far as we can before noon,
00:24:26then search the way back.
00:24:28That way it forms a dragnet and nothing can get by us.
00:24:31We're ready to split up now.
00:24:32You all know your territory.
00:24:34If you find Tom or anything that might lead to him,
00:24:37get word in as fast as you can.
00:24:41I know how you feel, Alf,
00:24:42but this is going to mean a lot of tough riding.
00:24:44You're not as young as you used to be.
00:24:46Roy, my boy means more to me
00:24:48than anything else in the world.
00:24:50Wild horses couldn't keep me away today.
00:24:52I knew you'd feel that way.
00:24:53You stick with us.
00:25:08Hurry it up. We gotta keep going.
00:25:10They've probably got a posse out looking for young Sharper.
00:25:23Hold it, Anderson.
00:25:26Hello, Bart.
00:25:28I can't stop and talk to you.
00:25:29I've got to take young Sharper into town.
00:25:31What's the matter with him?
00:25:32Oh, I don't know.
00:25:33I found him on my ranch this morning
00:25:34with a bad bruise on his head.
00:25:36The poor fellow don't seem to know
00:25:37who he is and what he's doing.
00:25:39How do you feel, son?
00:25:41I don't know.
00:25:43I don't think he's going to make it.
00:25:45I'm sure he'll make it.
00:25:47I'm sure he'll make it.
00:25:49I'm sure he'll make it.
00:25:51I don't think it's from a fall.
00:25:53Looks to me like he's been slugged.
00:25:55Get down off that wagon and start walking.
00:25:57What are you talking about?
00:25:59This is my wagon and I'm taking the boy to town.
00:26:01Can't you see he's hurt?
00:26:02You hurt me? Get off.
00:26:08You fellas are sure asking for trouble.
00:26:10That's our problem.
00:26:12Just keep calm and get on back to your ranch.
00:26:14You bet I will.
00:26:22Give me a hand.
00:26:25Come on, boy.
00:26:31There you go, sonny boy.
00:26:33We'll take good care of you.
00:26:51Say, isn't that a runaway team?
00:27:10Your eyes are still good, Al.
00:27:12That's what it is.
00:27:14Hey, Al, look.
00:27:21Hey, Al, look.
00:27:51Hey, Al, look.
00:27:54Come on.
00:28:01Come on.
00:28:03Come on.
00:28:21Roy!
00:28:23Roy!
00:28:24We found a man down the road.
00:28:26Oh?
00:28:27But you don't understand.
00:28:28He's dead.
00:28:29A rancher by the name of Anderson.
00:28:31Shot in the back.
00:28:32That's his team.
00:28:34Either of you recognize this?
00:28:36I certainly do.
00:28:37That's the gun I used when I was United States Marshal.
00:28:40I gave it to Tom when he joined the Border Patrol.
00:28:43It's been fired.
00:28:45Recently.
00:28:47Found it right in here.
00:28:49Do you suppose Tom had anything to do with that?
00:28:51Of course he didn't.
00:28:53I'm with Tom on a shoot, Anderson.
00:28:55Take it easy, Al.
00:28:56We know Tom wouldn't do a thing like that.
00:28:58Well, I guess we better go pick up the body.
00:29:03Tom.
00:29:08It's the shot cookie.
00:29:09Yeah, let's get him home.
00:29:11Let's go.
00:29:27Glad to see you got the place guarded.
00:29:29Where is he?
00:29:33I know there's something sure wrong with that guy.
00:29:35He don't know where he is and don't seem to care.
00:29:38Says he thinks he hurt his head by falling off his horse.
00:29:40Oh, he does, eh?
00:29:42Sounds interesting.
00:29:46Good evening, gentlemen.
00:29:59He didn't even recognize you.
00:30:01Maybe you can tell what's the matter with him.
00:30:03You said you studied medicine once.
00:30:04That's right.
00:30:05What happened to his uniform?
00:30:07Took it and gave him a change in case somebody might recognize him.
00:30:10Good.
00:30:15How do you feel, lad?
00:30:18Not so good.
00:30:20Where are you from?
00:30:21I...
00:30:23I don't know.
00:30:24What month is it?
00:30:26Month?
00:30:27He don't even know his own name.
00:30:29Of course he knows his name.
00:30:31It's Tom.
00:30:33Tom?
00:30:34And he shot a man dead this morning.
00:30:37I shot a man?
00:30:38You shot a man.
00:30:40And the law is after you.
00:30:42But if you stick with us and do as we say, we'll see that the law doesn't get you.
00:30:47I don't remember killing anyone.
00:30:49Found your gun.
00:30:50The whole countryside is looking for you.
00:30:52Well, I'm going to turn myself in.
00:30:54But you don't have to.
00:30:56I can only remember.
00:30:58Just be good and do as we say.
00:31:00Hey.
00:31:06You're right about Tom.
00:31:08He's the victim of amnesia.
00:31:10Loss of memory.
00:31:11Induced by traumatic shock.
00:31:13Are you sure you don't remember anything?
00:31:15How do you know he's not playing possum?
00:31:17If he didn't have amnesia, he would have been back at headquarters by yesterday.
00:31:21Now we'll get even with old Al Sharper and take this town over.
00:31:25In 30 days, it'll be Newcombville and we can cross the border like it was the state highway.
00:31:30We'll make old Al Sharper the laughingstock of this country.
00:31:34That's a good idea.
00:31:36But how and what are we going to do with Tom?
00:31:38Keep him here.
00:31:40I'll get a message through to you later.
00:31:52Hi, Roy.
00:31:53Cookie.
00:31:54We found his horse out at Anderson's place, but not a trace of Tom.
00:31:57Doesn't look too good for him, Cookie.
00:31:59We're not getting anywhere fast, are we?
00:32:01How's Alf?
00:32:03Well, his doctor's in there with him now.
00:32:06Brought him over here so that Sue could take care of him.
00:32:12Hello, Roy.
00:32:16How is he, doctor?
00:32:18I wish I could say he's all right, but I can't.
00:32:21Is there anything we can do?
00:32:22Well, Sue has all the instructions and I left the medicine in there with him.
00:32:27If anything happens, get in touch with me immediately.
00:32:31He's had a terrible shock for a man his age.
00:32:34He needs plenty of peace and quiet.
00:32:38If anything else happens, the shock might prove fatal.
00:32:52Come on.
00:34:23That nucle can really think up some beauties.
00:34:26Saddle up the horses.
00:34:31We're going to play a little game in town this afternoon.
00:34:34And Sharper's going to be it.
00:34:36Wake up.
00:34:37Come on.
00:34:38On your feet.
00:34:41How would you like to go for a little horseback ride?
00:34:44I don't know.
00:34:45I've never ridden a horse before.
00:34:47I've never ridden a horse before.
00:34:49How would you like to go for a little horseback ride?
00:34:52I don't know.
00:34:55Come on.
00:34:56We want you to go with us.
00:34:57We're going into town to borrow some money from the bank.
00:35:00Come on.
00:35:20It's funny.
00:35:21Lucan wanted us here at 2 o'clock sharp.
00:35:23I wonder what he's got to tell us.
00:35:25There's only one way to find out, Cookie.
00:35:27Ask him.
00:35:29Hey, snap out of it.
00:35:31We're going in the bank for a minute.
00:35:33You wait outside.
00:35:34We won't be long.
00:35:38When we come out, we'll split up.
00:35:40We'll all meet at the Rimrock.
00:35:41Got it?
00:35:42All right.
00:35:49Well, you're right on time.
00:35:52Look.
00:36:10Sheriff!
00:36:19Catch him, Roy, and we'll give him a quick trial.
00:36:49Let's go.
00:36:51Let's go.
00:37:17All right, you, get to your feet.
00:37:19Tom.
00:37:21Tom.
00:37:23I don't know.
00:37:24Oh, Tom, what are you doing in Astika?
00:37:26Have you lost your mind?
00:37:27I don't know what you're talking about.
00:37:29Okay, if that's the way you feel about it, we'd better go see the sheriff.
00:37:42I can't understand what's the matter with that boy.
00:37:44He seems perfect physically, except for that bruise on his head.
00:37:47But he still won't talk.
00:37:49Well, maybe we'd better get Alf down here.
00:37:52That might do some good.
00:37:53Oh, please, Cookie, not yet.
00:37:55If Alf hears about that bank robbery, the shock would kill him.
00:37:58Remember what the doctor said.
00:37:59Sue's right.
00:38:00We can't let Alf know about this.
00:38:01You say he still doesn't remember anything?
00:38:03That's what he says.
00:38:04Every time I ask him something, he just says he can't remember.
00:38:08It could be amnesia.
00:38:11Sheriff, do you mind if I try a little experiment?
00:38:13Not at all, Roy.
00:38:14Anything that might help Tom.
00:38:15Fellas, you know how proud Tom was of being a border patrolman.
00:38:19Come on, I'll need your help.
00:38:24Let's sing a song
00:38:27For all the boys along
00:38:32Along the far frontier
00:38:37The lads we hail
00:38:40Who ride the border trail
00:38:44Along the far frontier
00:38:49From the blue bonnet prairies of Texas
00:38:55To the mountains California way
00:39:00Those hard-riding sons of the saddle
00:39:05Do their duty night or day
00:39:10Their fame has grown
00:39:13In every place they're known
00:39:16Along the far frontier
00:39:20They stand for right
00:39:23And for their cause they'll fight
00:39:26If trouble should appear
00:39:30When the history of the West is written
00:39:35To the world it will be clear
00:39:40There's glory in the story of the border patrol
00:39:47Along the far frontier
00:40:06Oh, Tom, that song, doesn't it mean anything to you?
00:40:10Please.
00:40:11Go away and leave me alone.
00:40:14I'll call the doctor.
00:40:16All right, Sheriff.
00:40:17Sue, you better get back to Alf.
00:40:20And whatever happens, don't let him know about this.
00:40:26Sheriff, if you don't mind, I'd like to go in and have a talk with Tom.
00:40:30Go right ahead, Roy.
00:40:36Tom
00:40:48What are you trying to get away with, Tom?
00:40:51I think you're lying.
00:40:53Don't call me a liar.
00:40:54I told you I don't remember.
00:40:56You don't remember.
00:40:57I still think you're lying.
00:41:01Hey!
00:41:02Hey, Roy!
00:41:03Stop that fighting, you two, or I'll lock you both up.
00:41:05Hey, break it up, Roy.
00:41:06Are you crazy?
00:41:07Fighting a man in a place like this?
00:41:13Stop that fighting or I'll let you have it.
00:41:34Roy, don't.
00:41:35Don't hit Tom.
00:41:37What would Alf say?
00:41:43Roy!
00:41:46I still think you're lying.
00:42:04Oh, Roy!
00:42:06Roy!
00:42:07Roy!
00:42:08Roy!
00:42:33Roy Rogers, if I could get in there, I'd bust every bone in your hard head.
00:42:38Give me these keys.
00:42:39I'll teach you a thing or two.
00:42:43Okay, Cookie, go ahead.
00:42:45Oh, Roy, you know I couldn't lay a hand on you.
00:42:48But why did you hit Tom?
00:42:50Well, I feel as bad about it as you do.
00:42:52But his amnesia was caused by a blow on the head.
00:42:55And I thought maybe a shock like this would bring him back to us.
00:42:58Get me some water, quick.
00:43:00All right, Roy.
00:43:01But only a small glass this time.
00:43:03All right, Roy.
00:43:05Tom
00:43:08Tom
00:43:19Hello, Roy.
00:43:20Hi.
00:43:22Sheriff.
00:43:25There's old Cookie.
00:43:28Hello, Tom.
00:43:30Roy, it worked!
00:43:34What happened?
00:43:36What are we doing in here?
00:43:37Here, Tom, have a drink.
00:43:39You were hit on the head three days ago, and you've had amnesia.
00:43:43Let me rest for a while, Roy.
00:43:44You can rest in a minute.
00:43:45This is mighty important, Tom.
00:43:47What do you remember last?
00:43:51Well, I stopped a truck loaded with drums of soybean oil.
00:43:56I remember that one of the drums sounded hollow.
00:44:00And then...
00:44:01There must have been smuggling something in them drums.
00:44:04Tom.
00:44:05Tom, do you remember who was driving the truck?
00:44:07Never saw him before, Cookie.
00:44:09Do you remember anything particular about the truck?
00:44:12Yes, there was, Roy.
00:44:14They tried to pull a fast one on me.
00:44:17And when I chased them,
00:44:19one of the drums fell off the truck and rolled off the road.
00:44:24I'm sure they were smuggling something.
00:44:26Do you remember where it went off?
00:44:28Sure.
00:44:29Near the dry lake above Willow Springs.
00:44:32Good.
00:44:33We'll go out and have a look.
00:44:35Where are the boys?
00:44:36They're out front. They said they'd wait for you.
00:44:38Can I help, Roy?
00:44:39You just stay here and take it easy.
00:44:41We don't want anybody to know what's happening.
00:44:48Anything happen?
00:44:49We're going for a ride.
00:44:50What for?
00:44:51Look for an oil can.
00:45:03Hey, Roy!
00:45:34What an awful way to die.
00:45:36You can say that again.
00:45:39Take a look at this.
00:45:42Roy, this man's a criminal.
00:45:44He's wanted by the law.
00:45:46He was being smuggled back into the country.
00:45:48There must have been criminals in those other oil drums.
00:45:50That's why they were trying to get away from Tom.
00:45:52Yeah.
00:45:54You know, Cookie,
00:45:55a lot of people during the war sneaked out of this country
00:45:57because they couldn't stand investigation.
00:46:01Mexican authorities are cooperating in every way they can
00:46:03with our border patrol to arrest them when they try to get back in.
00:46:06But, Roy, who's behind this smuggling?
00:46:09Well, I don't know,
00:46:10but I guess we better have the sheriff pick this up
00:46:12and go have a talk with Al.
00:46:30Oh, Cookie, am I glad you're home.
00:46:32Hey, Alf!
00:46:33What are you doing out of bed?
00:46:34Oh, Newcomb was just here.
00:46:35I couldn't stop him.
00:46:36He went right in and woke Alf up.
00:46:38Why, that dirty hyena will have him arrested for illegal entry.
00:46:41Never mind, Roy.
00:46:43I'm all right.
00:46:45Newcomb told me the truth, and it's just as well.
00:46:49We've been fighting for 30 years,
00:46:51and I'm glad he's back.
00:46:53I'm glad he's back.
00:46:55I'm glad he's back.
00:46:57I'm glad he's back.
00:46:59We've been fighting for 30 years,
00:47:01and today we shook hands and made up.
00:47:05He told me all about Tom
00:47:07and offered me a good price for my holdings.
00:47:09What?
00:47:10You sell out to Newcomb?
00:47:12I have no choice.
00:47:14After what happened, I couldn't look my friends in the face.
00:47:17It was thoughtful of Newcomb to make me the offer.
00:47:20Sounds more than thoughtful to me.
00:47:22Where would he get that much money?
00:47:24Looks like a well-worked-out plan.
00:47:26You can bet a cow to a donut you're right, too, Roy.
00:47:29Why would Newcomb want us in town
00:47:31just in time for that bank robbery?
00:47:33They weren't looking for money. Why, they knew that...
00:47:36Hey, they knew that Tom was suffering from amnesia,
00:47:40and that's why they wanted to frame me.
00:47:42Alf, Newcomb still hates you.
00:47:44He wants to run you out of town and buy you out cheap.
00:47:46Can't you see how the pieces fit together?
00:47:48All we have to do is hang him on Newcomb.
00:47:51I should have known better than to trust that man.
00:47:54Judge Bullfincher, I want a word for that matter.
00:47:57Take it easy, Alf.
00:47:58We can get a lot more flies with honey than we can vinegar.
00:48:01If you'll all help me,
00:48:03I think we can round up the whole bunch and clear Tom.
00:48:06Sure, sure, Roy. What can we do?
00:48:08I'm not quite sure yet.
00:48:10But if I looked around, I might be able to find out.
00:48:13Alf, tonight we're going to invite Newcomb over here
00:48:16for the best dinner he ever had.
00:48:18What?
00:48:19Afterwards, to kind of quiet his nerves and keep him here for a while.
00:48:22Maybe even a little song.
00:48:37Been sitting here thinking I'm kind of blue
00:48:42Making my mind up just what to do
00:48:48Guess I'll be moving and on my way
00:48:53Hitting the trail back to Monterey
00:48:58Been missing the scenery, it's nice to see
00:49:03Missing the folks there, one specially
00:49:08Her name is Rosita and so I say
00:49:14Hitting the trail back to Monterey
00:49:19I'll be brushing up on my Spanish
00:49:24Saying, sÃ, yo te quiero
00:49:29Las estrellas en el cielo
00:49:35Me quiero a tu lado
00:49:40So see you around, boys, don't work too hard
00:49:45When I get time to, I'll send a card
00:49:50Guess I'll be moving and on my way
00:49:55Hitting the trail back to Monterey
00:50:00Hitting the trail back to Monterey
00:50:08Nothing like music to make a good dinner set.
00:50:11Well, thanks a lot.
00:50:14If you don't mind coming inside, I'd like to talk a few things over with you.
00:50:18Well, can't it wait till morning? I really ought to get going.
00:50:20It'll only take a minute. Business.
00:50:23Oh, well, in that case, I guess I'd better.
00:50:25Will you excuse us?
00:50:27I'll go with you and get some more coffee.
00:50:28Oh, that's fine.
00:50:31Just keep a little background music going, boys.
00:50:33We'll be back as soon as we can. Come on, Cookie.
00:50:39I've got a list of my assets here and there, considerably more than I realize.
00:50:43Well, I always thought you owned most of the town.
00:50:45Anyway, that figure I gave you is out.
00:50:48I'll have to have at least 15,000 more cash.
00:50:51Oh, 15,000.
00:50:55That's a lot of money, Alfie.
00:50:57That's the way it worked out.
00:50:58Can I see your figures?
00:51:00Certainly.
00:51:01Here they are.
00:51:21Roy, here's a skeleton key.
00:51:23And you don't have to give it to me.
00:51:25Here's a skeleton key.
00:51:26And you don't have to worry if we get caught.
00:51:28It's legal, because I've got a search warrant.
00:51:55What?
00:52:06What's that?
00:52:07Sounds like pigeons.
00:52:12Oh, they took on the whole flock of them.
00:52:19Yeah, and they're carrier pigeons, too.
00:52:21I wonder what he wanted them for.
00:52:23It could be to send messages to whoever's working for him.
00:52:26They couldn't take a chance on the telephone.
00:52:29We'd better take this one along as a souvenir.
00:52:31I want to look around some more.
00:52:37Flying mailman, huh?
00:52:39Any news today?
00:52:44There's no doubt that your price is reasonable, but I hadn't figured on that extra 15,000.
00:52:49Suppose I see what I can do and call you tomorrow.
00:52:51Certainly.
00:52:52You know where to find me.
00:52:53Sue, how about some coffee?
00:52:55All right, Al.
00:52:56Here it is.
00:52:57Nice and hot.
00:52:58Here you are, Mr. Newcomb.
00:52:59No, thank you.
00:53:00Oh, just one with me.
00:53:02No, I really got to be getting along.
00:53:04Oh, please, Mr. Newcomb.
00:53:05We get to see you so seldom.
00:53:06No coffee, please.
00:53:07But thank you.
00:53:08Just the same.
00:53:14Good evening, gentlemen.
00:53:15Good evening.
00:53:16So long.
00:53:18Well, where's Roy?
00:53:19I wanted to say good night to him.
00:53:21Why, uh, he was around here just a minute ago.
00:53:26Have you seen him, Sue?
00:53:27Well, no.
00:53:28He might have gone back into the kitchen for another piece of cake or something.
00:53:32And Judge Bullfinch here.
00:53:35Right over here, Mr. Newcomb.
00:53:37Good night.
00:53:39Thanks again, Sue.
00:53:41The dinner was delicious.
00:53:42Good night.
00:53:43Good night.
00:53:44Me too.
00:53:45Good night.
00:53:46That was a close one.
00:53:52How'd it go?
00:53:53Wonderful.
00:53:54Fine, fine.
00:53:55Elf, did he swallow the bait about the 15,000?
00:53:57He sure did.
00:53:58Did you find anything?
00:54:00Yeah, show him, Cookie.
00:54:02A pigeon.
00:54:03What good is that gonna do us?
00:54:06That pigeon belongs to Newcomb.
00:54:08He has a name.
00:54:09I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's a pigeon.
00:54:12I'm sure it is.
00:54:13I'm sure it is.
00:54:14I'm sure it is.
00:54:15I'm sure it is.
00:54:16I'm sure it is.
00:54:17I'm sure it is.
00:54:18I'm sure it is.
00:54:19I'm sure it is.
00:54:20It belongs to Newcomb.
00:54:21He has plenty more of them.
00:54:22If my guess is right, he'll be sending a message by one of them in the morning,
00:54:26and it'll be heading towards the border.
00:54:28We've got to get that message and read it.
00:54:30We'll use this pigeon to carry the message on to where it was intended to go.
00:54:33That way we can catch him red-handed.
00:54:35But Roy, will that pigeon go to...
00:54:36You can bet he's got all those pigeons trained to go to the same place.
00:54:39How are we gonna catch a pigeon?
00:54:41Come on, I'll tell you.
00:54:51Come on.
00:55:14Hi, little fella.
00:55:16Lucky for you you weren't up there flying around this morning.
00:55:31Hi, Roy.
00:55:32This is just like a snipe hunt.
00:55:35Times when I think you let your imagination run away with you.
00:55:39Well, the sun's been up a half an hour.
00:55:41If Newcomb's gonna send the message, it ought to be pretty soon.
00:55:45Roy, look!
00:55:49It's too far away, Cookie.
00:55:51It's heading down towards Foy.
00:56:14Hey, Roy!
00:56:15Here I am, down here!
00:56:28This is it, all right.
00:56:29There's a message tied around his leg.
00:56:31Oh, boy, the pigeon! You didn't have to...
00:56:33No, it was a lucky shot. I just mixed his wing.
00:56:35He'll be all right.
00:56:36Here, let me take him.
00:56:38Look at this.
00:56:39We need 15,000 more.
00:56:41Another shipment of oil waiting at the same place over border.
00:56:44Pick up immediately.
00:56:46We got him this time.
00:56:47Look, Cookie, I think it's only fair that Tom be in on this.
00:56:50How about releasing him in my custody?
00:56:53All right, you go on down to the border and I'll send him to you.
00:56:56We'll wait in town till we hear from you.
00:56:58Good.
00:56:59May I kill Al?
00:57:00You sure can.
00:57:01He's got a gun.
00:57:02He's got a gun.
00:57:03He's got a gun.
00:57:04He's got a gun.
00:57:05May I kill Al?
00:57:06He sure can.
00:57:07This is the kind of medicine he needs.
00:57:09In the meantime, I'll see that this message gets to the right place.
00:57:12Good. Come on.
00:57:17You know if this works, I'm going to give this pigeon a home for life.
00:57:20Well, he'll have a home, all right, because this is going to work.
00:57:36This deal sure came up in a hurry.
00:57:38What do we care?
00:57:39Those drums are worth 20 grand.
00:57:42Here's the border patrol shack.
00:57:43Get the clearance papers ready.
00:57:51I got a load of soybean oil.
00:57:54Here's the papers.
00:57:55Okay, get out of the cab.
00:57:58What do you mean?
00:57:59I'm in a hurry.
00:58:00I wouldn't be if I were you.
00:58:03Things are a little different this time.
00:58:04Get out.
00:58:09Trigger.
00:58:13Tom, handcuff him and take them and this stuff to town.
00:58:16I'll follow on Trigger.
00:58:17Okay, Roy.
00:58:18Look out, Roy!
00:58:24You're curious about those drums, aren't you?
00:58:26Rocco, open a couple of those empties.
00:58:29Pretty smart, weren't you, Roger?
00:58:31When Tom was released from jail, I figured something had gone wrong with our plans.
00:58:36But it's never too late to make them go right.
00:58:39We're taking both of you with us.
00:58:41All right, Roger.
00:58:42Get in there.
00:59:01Get in there.
00:59:31What are you going to do with them?
00:59:33Get rid of them.
00:59:34Drive to the top of Rim Road.
00:59:42Roy, can you hear me?
00:59:44Yeah, I can hear you, Tom.
00:59:47Listen, I'm going to try to rock this thing over the trip.
00:59:51Come on, let's go.
00:59:53Come on, let's go.
00:59:54Come on, let's go.
00:59:55Come on, let's go.
00:59:56Come on, let's go.
00:59:57Come on, let's go.
00:59:58Come on, let's go.
00:59:59Come on, let's go.
01:00:00Come on, let's go.
01:00:06I can't move mine.
01:00:12Good luck, Roy.
01:00:31Come on.
01:00:45Roger, she got out.
01:01:01I'm starting. Give me a hand.
01:01:22He's still coming.
01:01:24What?
01:01:25The drum was too loud.
01:01:27I can't hear you.
01:01:28What?
01:01:29The drum with Tom in it.
01:01:30Blow it up.
01:01:34Not that one. He's in there.
01:01:43Okay, Rogers.
01:01:44You want Tom, here he is.
01:01:59Come on.
01:02:17I did it.
01:02:18Step on it.
01:02:28Come on.
01:02:50Couldn't find him, Trigger.
01:02:52Too much mud.
01:02:56Come on.
01:02:59Come on.
01:03:24You have to shoot your way out. It's our only chance.
01:03:29You see them, the boys, Cookie?
01:03:31Not yet.
01:03:35You better take it easy.
01:03:36Never felt better in my life.
01:03:58Come on.
01:04:28Come on.
01:04:54Hey, wait a minute.
01:04:56I'll help you.
01:04:58Get me out of this, Cookie.
01:04:59This is personal.
01:05:06Come on, Alf.
01:05:08Hey, break it up, Alf.
01:05:09Break it up.
01:05:10Leave him alone, Roy.
01:05:11Alf's doing all right.
01:05:13Come on.
01:05:21Where's Tom?
01:05:23I hate to tell you this, Alf, but...
01:05:25Tom was in one of those barrels.
01:05:28And my men shoved it over the cliff.
01:05:30He's dead.
01:05:35Roy, I found something. Come and help me.
01:05:43Help me, Roy.
01:05:44What's the hurry?
01:05:45What's the hurry?
01:05:47Get back here.
01:05:48Get me out.
01:05:53Tom.
01:05:55The excitement, they forgot which barrel they put me in
01:05:57and threw the wrong one off.
01:05:59Hi, Dad.
01:06:00Hello, Tom.
01:06:01Hi, Tom.
01:06:02Sure good to see you.
01:06:03Hi, Dad.
01:06:04We sure thought you were a goner, boy.
01:06:05Yeah, we sure did.
01:06:08As a duly elected judge, I find Tom innocent
01:06:11of all the charges against him.
01:06:15But just wait till Mr. Newcomb comes up before me.
01:06:24THE END
