One woman, who says she's a medical student, decided to auction off her own virginity. The highest bid was for $801,000 but now she has announced that she's backing out of the auction.

Finding a 20-something year old virgin is, generally speaking, rare. One woman in particular used that fact to her advantage and decided to auction off her own virginity.

The highest bid was for 801 thousand dollars but now she has announced that she's backing out of the auction.

The 28-year-old woman, who says she’s a medical student’ goes by the name of ‘Elizabeth Raine’. Prior to the auction, Raine set up both a website and blog to detail her decision to sell her virginity.

She said the move had nothing to do with financial pressure, but instead claimed she saw it as a financial opportunity, as well as an adventure. She even said that 35 percent of the proceeds are going to charity.

The auction kicked off on April 1st. Raine reportedly worked with an Australian agent to sell her virginity given that prostitution is against the law in the US. The auction garnered bids from people in the U.K., Japan, Australia, Serbia and America.

Increments of over $100,000 were submitted in the early stages of the auction.

In her most recent blog post, announcing her decision to not fulfill the auction, she notes that she wants to focus on her studies instead.
