The Taliban are claiming to have captured an American military dog.

However the US military has indicated it belongs to one of their NATO coalition partners, and according to a BBC report the dog was “working for British forces”. The Taliban have released footage of the animal they have reportedly named Colonel.

One of the gunman held the very obedient and sad looking dog on a leash in what seemed to be an effort to show off the canine as a war earned prize .

The video also shows the dog carrying some equipment.

Taliban members say the dog was taken during a raid in eastern Afghanistan late last year.
They also said Colonel was outfitted with a torch, small camera and GPS tracking device.

A spokesperson for the International Security Assistance force in Kabul stated “We can confirm that a military working dog went missing following an ISAF mission in December, 2013. ”

Several weeks before the footage was released, reports surfaced that a senior Taliban commander was witnessed in the company of a foreign dog.
