Long-time civil servant Laimdota Straujuma has been appointed as Latvia’s first female prime
minister.

The 62-year-old is a former agriculture minister and succeeds Valdis Dombrovskis, who resigned after the supermarket roof collapse in Vilnius that killed more than 50 people.
