The artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet has described the moment he had acid thrown in his face.

He spoke of a “terrifying pain”.

Sergei Filin suffered severe burns after being attacked outside his Moscow home in January.

He was speaking at the trial of Bolshoi dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko, charged with plotting the assault, and two other men accused of carrying out the attack.

Sergei Kadyrov is the lawyer for the defence: “ We need to consider what Filin has said because he has said a lot of things that were not in his previous testimonies. So a lot of this information is new and I need to process it.”

Prosecutors claim that Dmitrichenko colluded with former convict Yuri Zarutsky to carry out the acid attack.

Zarutsky admits to throwing the acid, but swears he acted alone.

The third man in the dock, Andrei Lipatov, accused of being the driver, has denied any involvement.

Sergei Filin has undergone 20 operations on his eyes since the attack and further treatment is required.

The trial continues.
