Schools generally have a strict protocol when it comes to sending children with adults. An investigation is now underway after Gillingham's Napier Primary School in the UK dismissed a 6-year-old child to a man she didn’t know.

It all started after a retiree in his 70s arrived at the school to pick up his granddaughter for a scheduled doctor’s appointment. However, staff at the school made a major error.

They pulled another 6-year-old little girl with the same first name as the elderly man’s granddaughter, out of class. Surprisingly, the older male didn’t notice the child wasn’t his much younger relative.

He took her on a bus to a nearby medical center and together they picked up a liquid prescription. The grandfather then dropped the confused little girl back off at school.

The incident came to light after the girl brought the prescription home and handed it over to her parents.

The headteacher of the school stated “This has not only involved speaking with staff to find out how this could have happened, it has also involved reviewing all our procedures in connection with children's safety.”
