Judging children under the age of 16 in what were known as Mini-Miss beauty contests is now a criminal offence.
The French senate has voted to outlaw the competitions. Organisers of such pageants may face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to 30,000 Euros if they fail to comply with the ban.
The law forms part of a new equality bill.
