Russia has increased hostilities towards NATO members, Jens Stoltenberg says

After a two-day security summit in Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg delivered a stark warning regarding Russia's heightened aggression towards alliance members, saying that NATO will not wait out such behavior.

00:00Russia has engaged in renewed high levels of hostile activity against NATO allies, according

00:06to Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

00:09As a result, the alliance says it stepped up its defences through increased intelligence

00:13exchange, enhanced protection of critical infrastructure including undersea and in cyberspace,

00:20with further restrictions on Russian spies.

00:23In recent weeks, we have seen a surge of sabotage, cyber attacks, instrumentalised

00:30migration and other hostile actions by Russia.

00:36We will be calm and measured in how we respond to Russian provocations.

00:43At the same time, we will call out Russia's actions and impose costs."

00:50A defence strategy not seen since the Cold War was laid out at a meeting of NATO defence

00:54ministers including Ukrainian Minister Rustam Umarov.

00:58It detailed how the alliance intends to deter and defend against global threats including

01:03Russia and included 500,000 troops at high readiness across all domains.

01:08Ahead of the 75th anniversary of NATO in Washington, D.C. next month, allies also agreed to focus

01:14on stable military support to Ukraine.

01:18It will give more predictability and transparency and ensure a minimum of fair burden-sharing

01:23within the alliance and most importantly, it will send a message to Moscow that they

01:29cannot wait us out."

01:31NATO defence ministers say it's now time for long-term planning for Ukraine and have agreed

01:35extensive military training for Ukrainian soldiers towards stronger interoperability.

01:41They also say it's now time in practice and in language to move Ukraine towards full membership

01:45of the alliance.
