00:00رَبَّنَا زِدْنَا إِلْمًا
00:02Repeat after me.
00:04رَبَّنَا زِدْنَا إِلْمًا
00:06رَبَّنَا زِدْنَا إِلْمًا
00:08What does that mean?
00:10Oh my Lord, increase me
00:12in my knowledge.
00:14Why are we making this du'a?
00:17Do you want to increase in your knowledge?
00:19You want to learn?
00:21Why do you want to learn?
00:24To implement it.
00:25Why would you implement knowledge
00:27that you're learning?
00:30To be a better person,
00:32to be a better Muslimah,
00:34and to please Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
00:37Remember that for every person,
00:40every action that we do,
00:41any deed that it is,
00:43whether it's seeking knowledge,
00:44or it is getting in charity,
00:46any deed that you do,
00:48what should be our intention?
00:50To please Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
00:52Because if our intention
00:53is not to please Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
00:55it is not to get closer to Allah,
00:57then that action is useless.
00:59Once the action is done,
01:00it's over, it's finished.
01:02But if we do something
01:03for the sake of Allah,
01:04then you know what?
01:05You will find its benefit
01:06in the hereafter.
01:07You will reap its benefit
01:09in this dunya as well.
01:10So, as we embark on this journey
01:12of seeking knowledge,
01:13opening up the book of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
01:15we have to be sure
01:16why we're doing it.
01:18We're doing it
01:19to please Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
01:20We're doing it
01:21to better ourselves.
01:23We're doing it
01:23so that we can come closer to Allah.
01:25We can be successful
01:26in this dunya
01:27and in the akhira.
01:28This is why we're studying the Quran.
01:30So, are you with me?
01:32Everybody has this intention?
01:33Any other intention
01:34such as my mom sent me?
01:37Does anybody have this intention?
01:39Don't have it anymore.
01:40Leave that aside.
01:41Yeah, your mom pushed you.
01:43But now that you're here,
01:45make up your mind.
01:46I'm doing it for Allah
01:47so that I can benefit.
01:50I can be a better person.
01:52So, everybody's on the same page?
01:54Okay.
01:54Do you all have your notebooks with you,
01:56a pen with you?
01:57Have it ready.
01:58Because now you're going to start writing.
02:01There's a statement by a scholar.
02:04العلم صيد
02:06Knowledge is like an animal
02:09that you want to catch.
02:12Just imagine a hunter.
02:14Or just imagine a person who's fishing.
02:17Have you gone fishing?
02:19So, how do you fish?
02:19Do you have to stand silently sometimes?
02:22Patiently.
02:23Right?
02:24And you cannot miss the fish
02:26when it comes.
02:27Meaning as soon as you
02:28feel your fishing rod slightly moving,
02:31pull it out.
02:32So, you have to be ready and alert.
02:35You can't be just standing there
02:36talking on your cell phone.
02:37Yeah, I'm so bored.
02:38No.
02:39You don't do that.
02:40You have to be standing very alert.
02:42So, a scholar once said,
02:43العلم صيد
02:44Knowledge is like an animal
02:46you want to catch.
02:48And if you don't catch it on time,
02:49what's going to happen?
02:50It's going to go away.
02:52You've lost that opportunity.
02:54That whole hour that you were standing
02:55very patiently,
02:57gone.
02:58So,
02:58العلم صيد
02:59والكتابة قيد
03:01and كتابة writing
03:03is what harnesses that animal,
03:06that knowledge.
03:07So, if you don't write that knowledge down,
03:09what's going to happen?
03:11You're going to lose it.
03:12So, this is why it's important
03:14that as we're sitting in this classroom,
03:16we have our pens
03:16and our notebooks ready.
03:19As soon as you find something
03:20necessary to write down,
03:22immediately you can write it down.
03:23Now, if your pen is somewhere
03:24in the pencil case,
03:25by the time you want to write it down,
03:27by the time you get that pen
03:28out of the pencil case
03:28and you write it and you're like,
03:29what did she say?
03:30I completely forgot.
03:31So, alert, ready,
03:33with your pen in your hand
03:34and your book right in front of you.
03:36In this course, inshaAllah,
03:38we will be studying the Quran.
03:40Does anyone know
03:41what the word Quran means?
03:45Recitation.
03:46Quran, the word Quran,
03:48it literally means recitation.
03:51Have you heard of the word قراءة?
03:54قارئ.
03:55So and so is an excellent قارئ.
03:58Meaning so and so is an excellent reciter.
04:01And قراءة, recitation.
04:04So Quran is from the word قراءة.
04:06And قراءة is to recite, to read.
04:09So Quran is the recitation,
04:11that which is read.
04:13That which is meant to be recited.
04:15So is the Quran only meant
04:17to be put on your bookshelf?
04:18Very nicely.
04:20Are you supposed to just have
04:22a very nice Quran app on your phone?
04:24And you say,
04:25yeah, I have a Quran app on my phone.
04:27I bought it by the way.
04:28No.
04:29What's the purpose of the Quran?
04:31Why do we have it?
04:32What are we supposed to do with the Quran?
04:34Read it.
04:36But tell me something.
04:37When can you benefit
04:38from reading a particular text?
04:42When you understand it.
04:44Yes, the Quran,
04:46when you read it,
04:47you get benefit anyway,
04:48whether you understand or not.
04:50Because for every letter you recite,
04:51how much حسنات do you earn?
04:54Ten.
04:55The Quran,
04:56in reading it is benefit.
04:58But the complete full benefit
04:59you gain
05:00when you actually understand.
05:02And this is why we're here.
05:03So we can understand the Quran better.
05:06It is also said that the word Quran
05:07is from the word قراءة.
05:08And قراءة is to join together.
05:11And in the Quran,
05:12what is joined together?
05:14Many surahs,
05:16many chapters,
05:17many lessons,
05:18many admonitions,
05:20many stories.
05:21So a lot of good stuff
05:24is joined together
05:25in the Quran.
05:26And this is why
05:27we want to study the Quran.
05:29This is why
05:30we want to learn the Quran.
05:32What is the Quran?
05:33If somebody were to ask you,
05:35what's the Quran?
05:36Like for example,
05:37you put the Quran on your shelf
05:39and there's a little child.
05:40And he asks you,
05:41what is this Quran?
05:42Or you happen to go to school
05:43and you have your Quran with you.
05:45Now inshallah,
05:45you'll be going on the bus
05:46with your Jews,
05:47going to school with your Jews
05:49perhaps to learn your lesson.
05:50If somebody asks you,
05:52what is the Quran?
05:53How would you describe
05:54the Quran to them?
05:56It is a book that guides us
05:58to the right path.
05:59What else?
06:00This is the book
06:01that has the words
06:02of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in it.
06:04This Quran shows us
06:05how to live our lives
06:06in a more peaceful manner,
06:07in a more righteous manner.
06:09It guides to virtue.
06:11It addresses human needs
06:12and provides solutions.
06:14Gives you answers
06:15to your questions,
06:16to your problems.
06:18But if somebody were to ask you,
06:19who's the author?
06:20When was it written?
06:22Who's the publisher?
06:24What would you say?
06:26That this is the speech
06:28of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
06:29So the Quran
06:31is the Arabic kalam.
06:34It is the Arabic speech
06:35of Allah.
06:37And this Quran,
06:39Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
06:40revealed it.
06:41Revealed it to who?
06:43Prophet Muhammad
06:44sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
06:47How did he reveal it?
06:49Through the angel Jibriu.
06:51And how was it revealed?
06:53In wording and meaning.
06:55Meaning it wasn't just
06:56the words that were revealed,
06:57but along with the words,
06:59the understanding
07:00of those words,
07:01what does this text mean?
07:02Even that was taught
07:03to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
07:05And this has been preserved,
07:07meaning the Quran
07:08has been preserved
07:09in the mushaf.
07:11Since when?
07:13Long time.
07:14From the very beginning.
07:15It has been preserved
07:16in the mushaf.
07:18And has reached
07:19by mutawathir transmissions.
07:21What does it mean by mutawathir?
07:22Meaning many, many.
07:23There isn't just one way
07:24through which the Quran
07:25has been passed down.
07:26No, many, many people
07:27have passed it down.
07:27So which is why
07:28it's an authentic text.
07:29There's no doubt about it.
07:30Because somebody might say,
07:311400 years old,
07:32you think it's still the same?
07:34It is the same.
07:35It's definitely the same.
07:37And it is a challenge
07:38to mankind
07:38to produce something
07:40similar to it.
07:41This is what the Quran is.
07:44Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
07:46He also tells us
07:47about the Quran
07:48in His own words.
07:50We learn
07:50in surah al-shu'ara,
07:52ayah 192-196,
07:54Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
07:55وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنْزِيلُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
08:02Indeed, this Quran
08:04is a revelation
08:05of who?
08:07The Lord of the Worlds.
08:09Just imagine.
08:11Lord of the Worlds.
08:13The entire creation.
08:15Who created it?
08:16Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
08:18The one who created everything,
08:21the one who owns everything,
08:22He is the one
08:24who has sent this Quran down.
08:27نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوحُ الْأَمِينَ
08:31The trustworthy spirit,
08:34meaning the angel Jibreel,
08:35He has brought it down.
08:38Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
08:39chose the best angel
08:40to bring down the Quran.
08:42And how does Allah
08:42describe him over here?
08:44Trustworthy.
08:45At another place in the Quran,
08:46the other characteristics
08:47of the angel Jibreel
08:48that are mentioned are
08:49that he is very strong,
08:51very mighty,
08:51very able.
08:53Meaning not a weak angel,
08:55but a very able angel.
08:58عَلَى قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُنْذِرِينَ
09:04Upon your heart,
09:05meaning on the heart
09:06of the Prophet ﷺ.
09:09Why was the Quran revealed
09:10on the Prophet ﷺ?
09:12So that you would be
09:13of the warners.
09:15The reason behind
09:16the revelation of the Quran
09:17is to warn people.
09:19Warn them about what?
09:21About the punishment of Allah.
09:23About the anger of Allah.
09:24About failure,
09:26loss in the hereafter.
09:28So this Quran is here
09:29to save us.
09:31It's a warning.
09:32لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُنْذِرِينَ
09:34بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيٍّ مُّبِينَ
09:38In a clear Arabic language.
09:41So in what language
09:42was the Quran revealed in?
09:44In Arabic.
09:46Now tell me.
09:46Can you call the translation
09:48the Quran?
09:50The actual Quran is in what?
09:52Arabic language.
09:53So the translation cannot be
09:55equal to it.
09:57If you want to understand
09:59and benefit from the words of Allah,
10:01what do you have to do?
10:04Learn Arabic.
10:06Is that the answer?
10:08There are two ways.
10:10One is that you first
10:11gain complete mastery
10:13in the Arabic language.
10:14How many people can do that?
10:16You can attend Arabic classes anywhere.
10:18But seriously,
10:18how many people can actually
10:20become experts of the Arabic language?
10:22Can everybody do that?
10:24Is that in everybody's ability?
10:27You think every person
10:28can become excellent
10:29in Arabic language?
10:30No.
10:32It's not within everybody's ability.
10:35So there's another way.
10:36Which is that you understand
10:37the Arabic text.
10:39And this is why we're here.
10:41In this course,
10:41inshaAllah,
10:42our aim is not to make you
10:44experts of the Arabic language.
10:47Our aim is to make you understand
10:49the Arabic text of the Quran.
10:51So that when you read the ayah,
10:53when you hear the ayah,
10:55you will understand it.
10:57Why did Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
10:58reveal the Quran?
11:00What's the purpose?
11:01To guide mankind.
11:03Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says
11:04in Surah Ibrahim,
11:05ayah 1,
11:06كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ
11:08This is a book
11:09which we have revealed to you.
11:11Why?
11:12لِتُخْرِجَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ
11:14إِلَى النَّورِ
11:15So that you may take people
11:16out of the darkness
11:18into the light.
11:19What is the light?
11:22It's the Quran.
11:24And what's darkness?
11:25Life without Quran.
11:27If you think about darkness,
11:28is it scary?
11:30Yes, it is.
11:31What happens in darkness?
11:32You're very vulnerable.
11:34You can get harmed
11:35very, very easily.
11:37For example,
11:38if you walk into
11:38a very dark room
11:40and there's
11:41a piece of furniture,
11:43like for example,
11:43a table.
11:44Can you see it?
11:45What's gonna happen
11:46as you walk into the room?
11:47You're gonna bump into it.
11:50You could hurt yourself.
11:52Similarly,
11:53just imagine
11:53you're in a very dark building
11:54and there's stairs.
11:55You don't see the stairs,
11:56can you fall?
11:58Can you hurt yourself?
11:59Can you make mistakes?
12:01Yes.
12:02So life without Quran
12:04is a life
12:06that is in darkness.
12:06Which is why
12:08a person could end up
12:09harming himself.
12:11A person could end up
12:12making huge mistakes.
12:15This is why
12:16it's essential
12:17that we understand the Quran.
12:19So kitabun anzalnaahu ilayka
12:21litukhrij al-naasa
12:22min al-zulumati
12:23ila nūt
12:23bi-idni rabbihim
12:25ila siratil aziz al-hamid.
12:27To the path of the one
12:28who is mighty
12:28and praiseworthy.
12:30Which is the path of
12:31Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
12:33Who are the recipients
12:34of the Quran?
12:36Mankind?
12:37Which people?
12:39The Quran
12:39is a message for who?
12:42For all mankind.
12:44For all people.
12:45Regardless of their age,
12:47of their color,
12:48of their nationality,
12:49of their ethnicity,
12:50of their race.
12:51Nothing matters.
12:53Their gender
12:53doesn't matter.
12:56The Quran is for who?
12:57All of mankind.
12:58Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says
12:59إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ
13:02لِلنَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ
13:04We have sent down
13:05the Quran to you
13:06for who?
13:08For the people.
13:10The Prophet
13:10was supposed to convey
13:12the Quran to who?
13:13All people.
13:14All of mankind.
13:15Which is why we see
13:16that Makkah,
13:17when the Prophet
13:18was there,
13:19there were many people
13:20who were free,
13:21many people who were slaves,
13:23many people who were rich
13:24and many people
13:25who were poor.
13:26There were people
13:26who were from
13:27the tribe of Quraysh,
13:28those who were very elite
13:30and there were those
13:31who were freed slaves.
13:32Like for example,
13:32he was a freed Roman slave.
13:35He was actually from Rome.
13:37Similarly,
13:38we have people like
13:38Bilal
13:39from Habasha.
13:41So we see people
13:42from different,
13:43different backgrounds.
13:45But the Quran
13:46was for
13:46all of them.
13:49This message,
13:50this Quran
13:50is for who?
13:51All of mankind.
13:53How was the Quran revealed?
13:54How did it get to us?
13:57It was revealed
13:59slowly,
14:00gradually,
14:00over a period of
14:0123 years.
14:03And how was it given
14:04to the Prophet ﷺ?
14:05Through
14:06wahi,
14:07revelation.
14:08Are you familiar
14:08with the word wahi?
14:10Inshallah,
14:10we'll learn about
14:11the details of wahi
14:12soon,
14:13as in the literal meaning.
14:15So the Quran
14:16was revealed
14:16through wahi
14:17and it was revealed
14:18gradually.
14:20Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
14:20says,
14:21in Surah Al-Isra,
14:22ayah 106,
14:23wa qur'anan faraqnaahu
14:25litaqra'ahu
14:26ala annaasi
14:27ala muqsin
14:28wa nazalnaahu
14:29tanzeela.
14:30That this Quran,
14:32which we have
14:33separated
14:34by intervals.
14:35Why have we
14:36separated it
14:36by intervals?
14:37Meaning,
14:38it's sent down
14:39gradually.
14:40So that you might
14:41recite it to the people
14:42over a prolonged period.
14:45How long
14:45was this period?
14:4723 years.
14:48And we have
14:49sent it down
14:50progressively.
14:52Now what's the reason?
14:53Why was the Quran
14:53revealed gradually
14:54over a period
14:55of 23 years?
14:57Whenever some
14:58ayat were revealed,
14:59they were relevant
15:00to the situation
15:00that the Prophet
15:01or the Muslims
15:02were facing.
15:03So when it came,
15:04it was very meaningful
15:05for them,
15:06very relevant for them,
15:07they could apply it.
15:08It was easier
15:09for the Prophet
15:10for the companions
15:12to implement it.
15:15Just imagine,
15:16if we were to teach you
15:18the entire Quran
15:18today,
15:20would it be possible
15:22first of all?
15:23Secondly,
15:24would you be able
15:25to remember everything?
15:27Hardly.
15:29And instead of
15:30enjoying the experience,
15:32benefiting from the experience,
15:33what would you remember?
15:34It was so difficult.
15:37So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
15:38out of His mercy,
15:39He revealed the Quran
15:40over a period
15:41of 23 years.
15:42Because when you do
15:43something gradually,
15:44first of all,
15:45it's the way of Allah.
15:46Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
15:47created the heavens
15:48and the earth
15:48also in six days.
15:50Why?
15:51Could He not create it
15:52in a second?
15:54Of course He could.
15:55But it's the way
15:56of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
15:57that He does things gradually
15:58and this is what
15:59we learn as well.
16:00This is what He teaches us as well.
16:02There's a lot of benefit
16:03in studying the Quran
16:05gradually.
16:05Because when you take it
16:06gradually,
16:07you can remember it better.
16:08You can benefit,
16:09you can implement.
16:10When was the Quran revealed?
16:14In the month of Ramadan.
16:16Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
16:17شهر رمضان
16:18الذي أنزل فيه القرآن
16:21It's the month of Ramadan
16:22in which the Quran was revealed.
16:25Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
16:26chose the blessed month of Ramadan.
16:28And which night in particular?
16:31ليلة القدر
16:32إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر
16:36What does it show?
16:37Why am I mentioning all of this?
16:39When was it revealed?
16:40What's the purpose?
16:43Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
16:44chose
16:44a very blessed month.
16:47A very blessed night.
16:49When you do something
16:50at a very special time,
16:51what does it show?
16:52That what you're doing
16:53is very special.
16:55It's not ordinary.
16:56So I want you to realize
16:58that the book you're about to study
17:00is not an ordinary book.
17:02It's a very special book.
17:04Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
17:05has given a lot of honor
17:06to this book.
17:07He chose the best angel
17:09to send down this Quran.
17:11And the person,
17:12the human being
17:13who received this Quran
17:14was who?
17:15Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
17:16The best of all people.
17:19The night that Allah chose.
17:20The best night.
17:21So this Quran is very special.
17:25How was the Quran revealed?
17:27Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
17:27sent it down how?
17:29Through wahi.
17:30And how has the Quran been revealed?
17:33In the form of surahs
17:35as well as ayat.
17:38Inshallah we'll be studying
17:40all of the surahs of the Quran.
17:42But before we study any surah,
17:44we have to know
17:45what the word surah means.
17:46What is a surah by the way?
17:49Chapter, wall, barrier.
17:53The word surah
17:53literally means an enclosure.
17:56Something that closes
17:58something else within it.
18:01So just imagine you're at home
18:03and you look out your window,
18:05your kitchen window
18:05and you see the fences
18:06of all of the backyards.
18:08Your backyard is what?
18:11In an enclosure.
18:13The fence is what?
18:14It's enclosing
18:15your piece of land,
18:17your property within it.
18:19So the word surah
18:20literally means
18:20an enclosure or a fencing.
18:22And it's from the word
18:23sarah ya surah.
18:24Sarah ya surah
18:25literally is to surround
18:26something with a wall
18:28or a railing.
18:30Why do you think
18:30the surah of the Quran
18:31is called surah?
18:33What does it enclose
18:34within itself?
18:35Particular idea.
18:37Lessons.
18:39Ayat.
18:40Verses.
18:41There's a particular
18:42set of ayat
18:43which the surah has
18:44enclosed within itself.
18:46For example,
18:48when you think of surah al-fatiha,
18:50which ayat do you think of?
18:52Alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen
18:53all the way to
18:54walabballeen.
18:56A surah contains
18:57a specific set of verses.
19:01And obviously those verses
19:02that teach us many things,
19:03many lessons,
19:04many concepts,
19:05many themes.
19:06And the word surah
19:06also has another meaning
19:07which is an elevated plane.
19:10An elevated plane,
19:11you can see it from a distance.
19:13Something that is
19:13at a height
19:14is honorable,
19:15respectable.
19:17So the Quran,
19:18all of its surahs are
19:19important.
19:21Every single surah
19:22is important.
19:24How many surahs
19:25are there in the Quran?
19:27One hundred and
19:28fourteen.
19:30Are you ready
19:30to study all of them?
19:32What's your attitude
19:33to studying
19:33all of the surahs
19:35of the Quran?
19:36Be excited.
19:38Every surah
19:39is special.
19:40Every surah
19:41is full of gems.
19:43Now these surahs,
19:44what do they have
19:45within them?
19:47Ayat,
19:47verses.
19:48What's an ayah?
19:50A verse of the Quran.
19:52The literal meaning
19:53of the word ayah,
19:54it's used for a sign,
19:55an indication,
19:56it's also used
19:56for a miracle,
19:58it's also used
19:59for a sentence,
20:00it's also used
20:00for a lesson,
20:02an admonition,
20:02it has many different meanings.
20:04So if you combine
20:05all these meanings together,
20:06and you look at
20:07the ayahs of the Quran,
20:08what are the ayahs
20:09of the Quran?
20:09An ayah is a verse
20:12of the Quran,
20:14and it's a miracle
20:14from Allah.
20:15Every single ayah
20:16is a miracle.
20:18And as you study it,
20:20as you study
20:21every ayah,
20:22you will realize
20:22that miracle.
20:23how eloquent it is,
20:25how profound it is,
20:26how meaningful it is,
20:27how relevant it is,
20:28how beautiful it is.
20:30From the words
20:31to the meaning,
20:32the content,
20:33the style,
20:33everything is so beautiful.
20:36An ayah is a verse
20:38of the Quran,
20:38it's a miracle from Allah,
20:39it contains lessons
20:41from mankind.
20:42Why?
20:43So that people
20:44can benefit from them.
20:45And it's also
20:47an admonition
20:48for the believers
20:48as well as disbelievers.
20:50There's a lot of advice,
20:52a lot of lessons.
20:55Now the Quran,
20:56it has many names.
20:58Do you know
20:59some of the names
20:59of the Quran?
21:02Furqan.
21:03What does Furqan mean?
21:05Criterion.
21:06It's from faraqah.
21:08Faraqah is to separate,
21:09to distinguish.
21:10The Quran gives you
21:12the ability
21:12to distinguish,
21:14to separate.
21:15Between what and what?
21:17Is it here
21:18to divide people?
21:19No.
21:20It tells you
21:21what is right
21:22and what is wrong.
21:24It tells you
21:25what is good
21:26and what is bad.
21:27It tells you
21:28what is beneficial
21:29and what is harmful.
21:31It tells you
21:31what will lead you
21:32to success
21:33and what will lead you
21:34to failure.
21:34It tells you
21:35about what will lead
21:36to the pleasure of Allah
21:37and what will lead you
21:38to the displeasure of Allah,
21:40to the anger of Allah.
21:42Have you ever been
21:42in confusion?
21:43What do I do?
21:44Do I do this
21:44or do I do that?
21:46Of course,
21:47all the time.
21:48And sometimes,
21:49you know,
21:50when you look around you
21:51in this dunya,
21:51there are so many
21:52ways people do things.
21:54One person is doing
21:55one thing one way,
21:56another person is doing
21:57something the other way.
21:58What's the better way?
22:00What's the best way?
22:02It's the way
22:03that is shown to us
22:04in the Quran.
22:05Why?
22:06Because this Quran
22:07is from whom?
22:08Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
22:09And who is Allah?
22:10He knows us.
22:11So the way that He has shown
22:12is the best for us.
22:14So the Quran
22:14gives us criterion.
22:17Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
22:18says in the Quran,
22:19in Surah Al-Furqan,
22:20تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ
22:22الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ
22:23لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا
22:25That blessed is the one
22:27who has sent down
22:27the Furqan,
22:28the criterion upon his servant.
22:31Similarly,
22:32the Quran has another name as well,
22:33which is Ad-Dhikr.
22:34And what does Ad-Dhikr mean?
22:38Remembrance,
22:39reminder.
22:40So the Quran is a reminder as well.
22:43How?
22:43In what sense?
22:45For example,
22:46it's quite possible,
22:48somebody asks you,
22:49where were you today?
22:51Saturday.
22:53Weekend.
22:53Where were you this morning?
22:55You might tell them,
22:56I've joined a course
22:57to study the Quran.
22:58They might say,
23:00why are you doing it?
23:02Don't you know
23:03what you're supposed to do already?
23:04You know you have to pray,
23:05you pray anyway.
23:07You know that you're supposed
23:08to fast in the month of Ramadan,
23:09you do it anyway.
23:10Or you might question yourself,
23:11why should I study the Quran?
23:13Why?
23:14Because the Quran will remind you
23:15of what you're supposed to do.
23:18We all know we should be patient.
23:19Similarly,
23:20we know that we're supposed
23:21to fulfill our promises.
23:22We know that we should
23:24have trust on Allah.
23:26We know about many things.
23:27But what happens?
23:29We forget sometimes.
23:31We don't realize
23:31how important these things are.
23:34How important these virtues are.
23:36How important these actions are.
23:38Which is why we get carried away.
23:39We're like,
23:40well forget it.
23:40I can't be bothered with this.
23:42But the Quran reminds you
23:44of its importance.
23:45The Quran reminds you
23:46of its relevance.
23:47The Quran reminds you
23:48of how much Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
23:50likes that virtue.
23:51So this is why
23:52the Quran is important.
23:53Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
23:54وَإِنَّهُ لَذِكْرٌ لَكَ
23:56وَلِقَوْمِكَ
23:57This Quran is a reminder
23:59for you,
23:59O Prophet ﷺ,
24:00and also for your people.
24:02Think about it.
24:03The Prophet ﷺ,
24:04did he not know the religion
24:05from the beginning
24:06till the end?
24:07Of course he did.
24:08He was the one
24:08on whom the religion
24:09was revealed to.
24:10But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
24:11says,
24:11reminder for you.
24:14If he needed that reminder,
24:15do we not need it more?
24:17Yes, we do.
24:19And this Quran,
24:20how important is it?
24:22You have learned
24:22about the virtues of the Quran,
24:24the exalted status of the Quran.
24:26Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
24:27says in the Quran,
24:28قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ
24:29وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ
24:30فَبِذَلِكَ
24:31فَلْيَفْرَحُوا
24:31With this Quran,
24:33people should rejoice.
24:34They should be excited.
24:36And I want to see
24:36the excitement
24:37on your faces as well.
24:38Because you're about
24:39to study the Quran.
24:40Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
24:41says,
24:41this is something
24:42that you should be happy about.
24:44This is something
24:45that you should be excited about.
24:47This is something
24:47that you should rejoice about.
24:49That yes,
24:49I have the Quran.
24:50Yes, I'm going to study the Quran.
24:52Why?
24:53Because
24:53هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
24:56It is better than
24:57all that the people can gather.
24:59It is better than
25:00all that the people can collect.
25:03People collect many things.
25:05From money
25:05to things that are valuable
25:07to some hours on sleep.
25:09People collect many things.
25:11But what does Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala say?
25:13The Quran is the best
25:14that you can collect.
25:16Because think about it.
25:17Every weekend
25:17that you'll be coming over here,
25:18what are you doing?
25:20Collecting a part of the Quran.
25:22Taking a part of the Quran.
25:24And as you take
25:25each part of the Quran,
25:26rejoice over it.
25:28Because it's the best
25:29that you could ever take for yourself.
25:31هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
25:33Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
25:34وَهَذَا ذِكْرٌ مُبَارَكٌ
25:36أَنزَلْنَاهُ
25:38That this is a reminder
25:40which is blessed.
25:41It's مُبَارَك.
25:42It's full of many blessings.
25:44مُبَارَك is something
25:45that is full of خير.
25:47Full of many, many blessings.
25:48So this is what the Quran is.
25:50It's full of blessings.
25:51And inshallah,
25:52you will see those blessings.
25:53You will see those benefits
25:54as you study the Quran.
25:56وَهَذَا ذِكْرٌ مُبَارَكٌ
25:57أَنزَلْنَاهُ
25:58We have revealed it.
25:59We have sent it down.
26:02Those who study this Quran,
26:04what did the Prophet ﷺ say
26:05about those people?
26:07The Prophet ﷺ said,
26:08Verily, Allah has chosen people
26:10amongst mankind.
26:11Chosen people.
26:13Select few.
26:15Certain people who are very special to Him.
26:19They are the people of the Quran.
26:21They are the people of Allah
26:22and His chosen ones.
26:25Who are the people of the Quran?
26:28People who learn it.
26:30People who teach it.
26:31People who implement it.
26:33People who recite it.
26:34People who memorize it.
26:36People who understand it.
26:38They are the people of the Quran.
26:40So as we have embarked on this journey,
26:43we are going to be reading the Quran.
26:45We are going to be understanding the Quran.
26:47We are going to be known
26:48as those people who go to a Quran class.
26:51So rejoice over it.
26:53Be happy about this.
26:55Don't be embarrassed.
26:56This is something that you should feel
26:58very special about.
26:59Because when a person becomes
27:00of the people of the Quran,
27:01then who does it become of?
27:02Those people who are chosen by Allah.
27:06Those who are selected by Allah.
27:08And obviously,
27:09the best of you,
27:10the Prophet ﷺ said,
27:12the best among you are who?
27:13Those who study the Quran,
27:15learn the Quran,
27:16and also teach it.
27:19People study many things.
27:21People teach many things as well.
27:24But out of all people,
27:25who is the best one?
27:26The one who learns the Quran
27:27and teaches it.
27:28Because he is doing the best thing ever.
27:30I want all of you to stand up
27:33for half a minute
27:34and share one thing
27:35with the person standing next to you
27:37about how you feel
27:38or something new
27:39that you have learned.
27:41And when I make you stand up,
27:42it doesn't mean
27:43go to the cafeteria.
27:46When I make you stand up,
27:47it's not a break.
27:48It's actually a part
27:50of the class activity.
27:51So don't think
27:52that it's not important.
27:54This is also important.
27:56And when I've told you
27:57to discuss something
27:57with one another,
27:58you should be doing that.
28:00Now share something with me too.
28:03Yes.
28:04What did you learn?
28:04I learned that
28:05the people who study the Quran
28:07are going to be
28:08the inheritors of the Prophet.
28:09And that's one of the greatest blessings
28:12that you could possibly have.
28:13The sister said that
28:14she learned
28:16that what she's doing
28:17is something that is
28:18very important.
28:19She should value this
28:21and she should be grateful for this.
28:22Should we be grateful
28:23for this opportunity?
28:25Yes.
28:26Because think about it.
28:27How many people are there
28:28in this world?
28:29Many people.
28:31There are so many Muslims.
28:33But tell me,
28:34how many Muslims
28:35know the Quran?
28:38How many can say
28:39that yes,
28:40when I hear the Quran,
28:41I know what it means?
28:43Very few.
28:45If Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
28:47has chosen you
28:48to come here
28:49and study the Quran,
28:51know the Quran
28:52so that when you hear the ayat,
28:53you know what they mean,
28:54isn't that a huge blessing?
28:57Isn't that a huge favor?
29:00It's a huge blessing.
29:02This is why we should
29:03value this blessing.
29:04We should take the best
29:05out of this opportunity.
29:06We should thank Allah
29:07for this opportunity.
29:09At this point,
29:10yes, we should be happy.
29:11We should rejoice.
29:12We should be excited.
29:13But at the same time,
29:14we should also realize
29:15the seriousness
29:16of what we're about to do.
29:19This is not like taking
29:20an English course.
29:21This is not like taking
29:22a math course.
29:23This is not like taking
29:24a geography course.
29:26No.
29:27We're about to study the Quran.
29:29The words of Allah.
29:31The one who knows us
29:32when we're alone.
29:33The one who sees us
29:34when we're in front of everybody.
29:36The one who knows
29:36what's going on in our heads.
29:38The one who knows us
29:39inside out.
29:41We're studying His book.
29:44And we should realize
29:45that this is something
29:46very serious.
29:48Because the Quran
29:49is either
29:50إِحُجَّ لَكَ
29:51أَوْ عَلَيْكَ
29:52It's either
29:53an argument for you
29:55or against you.
29:56Meaning,
29:57on the Day of Judgment,
29:58the Quran will either come
30:00pleading for you
30:01so that you can be successful,
30:03you can be granted Jannah,
30:04or it will come
30:05complaining about you.
30:07What does it mean by that?
30:08That for some people,
30:09the Quran will say,
30:10Oh Allah,
30:11enter him into Jannah.
30:12Why?
30:13Because she read the book.
30:15She understood it.
30:17She implemented.
30:18She passed it on.
30:20But some other people,
30:20the Quran will be a hujjah against.
30:22That yes,
30:22they studied,
30:23but they forgot.
30:24They learned,
30:25but they never implemented.
30:26So yes,
30:27we should be excited
30:28about what we're doing,
30:29but at the same time,
30:29we should realize
30:30it's seriousness.
30:31And only when we realize
30:32it's seriousness,
30:34can we do this work properly.
30:36So,
30:37with this in our mind,
30:38we're going to do this work
30:40and we're going to do this work
30:41and we're going to do this work
30:41and we're going to do this work
30:42and we're going to do this work
30:42and we're going to do this work
30:43and we're going to do this work
30:44and we're going to do this work
30:45and we're going to do this work
30:45and we're going to do this work
30:46and we're going to do this work
30:46and we're going to do this work
30:47and we're going to do this work
30:48and we're going to do this work
30:49and we're going to do this work
30:50and we're going to do this work
30:51and we're going to do this work
30:52and we're going to do this work
30:53and we're going to do this work
30:54and we're going to do this work
30:55and we're going to do this work
30:56and we're going to do this work
