00:00Truth and Trends. I'm Sophia and with me is Charles. Today we're talking about a very important
00:13social issue that affects women in the workplace. The glass cliff. Being a woman I can say that
00:18this is a very real thing and it's a conversation that we need to be having. Sophia, I've heard of
00:22the glass ceiling but I'm not familiar with the glass cliff. So what is it? The glass cliff is
00:27a phenomenon where women are more likely to be appointed to leadership positions in companies
00:31that are in a crisis. It's a dangerous promotion and it's a very real thing. So they're more likely
00:36to be appointed to a company that's already failing? Yes. A lot of studies have found that
00:40when a company is in trouble, the board of directors is more likely to take a risk and appoint a woman
00:45to the top job. So they're being set up for failure. That's the argument. The woman is appointed to a
00:50company that's already in trouble and if she fails, she's seen as a bad leader. But if a man fails,
00:55he's seen as a leader who took a risk. That's a huge double standard. It is. So what's the big
00:59takeaway from all of this? I think the big takeaway is that we need to be more mindful
01:03of the double standards that women face in the workplace. And we need to make sure that they're
01:07given the same opportunities to succeed as men. So it's a matter of fairness. So Charles,
01:11it feels like we've covered the most important aspects of this issue. But I want to ask our viewers
01:16a question. Have you or someone you know experienced this phenomenon? We would love to hear your thoughts
01:21in the comments. We would. Well, with that, we'll wrap up this video. Viewers, I hope you have
01:25received some valuable information. I hope so too. We'll be back with another interesting topic
01:30on the next video. Absolutely.
