Have you ever been in an argument where the other person attacks you instead of your point? Or twists your words into something extreme? Or says “this is true because a big person said so”? These are logical fallacies—errors in reasoning that look smart but are actually flawed. In this Truth N Trends series, Sonia and Deepak expose the tricks of faulty arguments, with examples from everyday Indian life.

00:00dear viewers welcome to truth and trends
00:10Deepak yesterday I saw heated debate where one guy shouted you're an idiot so your point is
00:16useless oh yes Sonia happens all the time but why do people do that instead of answering the actual
00:23argument that's our first fallacy ad hominem instead of attacking the argument they attack
00:29the person example if you say smoking is harmful and I reply shut up you're not even a doctor
00:36that's ad hominem hmm so instead of facts they try to discredit the speaker very common in Indian
00:44politics too exactly next is storm an argument here someone twist your words into an extreme version
00:51and then attacks that like if I say we should reduce pollution and someone replies oh so you
00:57want to ban all factories and make us live in caves perfect example the original point is lost and the
01:03fake straw man is easier to attack third appeal to authority people say this must be true because a
01:11big person said it like my guru said this katha cures cancer but truth doesn't depend on fame
01:18it depends on evidence right even if a famous cricketer advertises a tonic that doesn't prove
01:24it works but people still fall for it yes because fallacies feel convincing they push our emotions
01:31respect for authority fear of insult or annoyance at being misrepresented that's why whatsapp forwards
01:39spread so easily so fallacies aren't always intentional tricks sometimes people genuinely don't realize
01:47they're using them exactly some do it to manipulate some do it by habit either way it blocks real
01:53discussion so viewers lesson one spot the trick don't get carried away yes and this is just the
02:00beginning in our next part we'll expose more like appeal to tradition appeal to emotion and red herring
02:08don't miss it like share and subscribe to truth and trends and until next time think critically
02:14question everything and don't let fallacies fool you jay hind
