00:00It was a cold winter's morning on the island of Sodor.
00:04The wind was bitter and the ground hard with frost.
00:08Thomas and Percy were cold and cross.
00:10All I want is a warm boiler, huffed Thomas.
00:14Firelighter knows that. He's late.
00:16He's not late, replied Percy. This weather woke us up early.
00:20Gusts of wind swirled round the shed, tossing flakes of snow toward Thomas.
00:25Then they swooshed round Percy, too.
00:28Why don't we talk about something else, shivered Percy.
00:31Yes, replied Thomas. Like how silly we'll look when our funnels turn into icicles.
00:36That's not funny. Maybe we'll stop feeling cold if we talk about warm things.
00:41Like sunshine and steam.
00:43And firelighters, muttered Thomas.
00:49Scarves, continued Percy.
00:51Scarves, laughed Thomas. That's what you need, Percy.
00:55A woolly scarf round your funnel.
00:58Thomas was only teasing, but Percy thought happily about scarves until the firelighter came.
01:05Sir Topham Hatt was enjoying hot porridge for breakfast.
01:09He was looking forward to taking important visitors on a tour of the railway
01:13and had pressed his special trousers.
01:15I shall put them in my trunk, Sir Topham Hatt said to his wife,
01:19and change into them just before the photographs are taken.
01:23Then he set off to catch his train.
01:26Percy was now working hard.
01:28His fire was burning nicely and he had plenty of steam, but he still thought about scarves.
01:35He saw them everywhere he went.
01:43My funnel's cold, my funnel's cold, he puffed.
01:46I want a scarf, I want a scarf.
01:49Rubbish, Percy, said Henry.
01:51Engines don't wear scarves.
01:53Engines with proper funnels do, replied Percy.
01:55You've only got a small one.
01:59Before Henry could answer, Percy puffed away.
02:04Henry snorted. He was looking forward to pulling the special train.
02:08It was time for the photographs. Everyone was excited.
02:13Sir Topham Hatt was waiting on the platform for his trousers.
02:17They were in a trunk amongst a big load of baggage.
02:20The porters were taking the baggage trolley across the line.
02:23They were walking backwards to see that nothing fell off.
02:28Percy was still being cheeky.
02:30His driver always shut off steam just outside the station.
02:34Percy wanted to surprise the coaches by coming in as quietly as he could.
02:39But the porters didn't hear him either.
02:41Percy gave them such a fright that boxes and bags burst everywhere.
02:47Oh, groaned Percy.
03:04Sticky streams of jam trickled down Percy's face.
03:08A top hat hung on his lamp iron.
03:11Worst of all, a pair of trousers coiled lovingly around his funnel.
03:17Everyone was very angry.
03:20Sir Topham Hatt seized the top hat.
03:23Mine, he said. Percy, look at this.
03:26Yes, sir. I am, sir.
03:29My best trousers, too. Yes, sir. Please, sir.
03:33We must pay the passengers for their spoiled clothes, and my trousers are ruined.
03:37I hope this will teach you not to play tricks with the coaches.
03:42Percy went off to the yard. He felt very silly.
03:46On the way, he met James.
03:48Hello, Percy. So you found a scarf, eh?
03:51But legs go in trousers, not funnels.
03:54And he puffed away to tell Henry the news.
03:57That evening, Thomas and Percy were resting in the shed.
04:00Percy's driver had taken away the trousers and given Percy a good rubdown.
04:05Firelighters promised to come early tomorrow, said Thomas.
04:09Henry arrived. He'd enjoyed taking the visitors around and now felt sorry for Percy, too.
04:15Driver says the weather will be warmer tomorrow.
04:18You won't need a scarf, Percy.
04:20Certainly not, replied Percy.
04:22Engines don't need scarves. Engines need warm boilers.
04:25Everyone knows that.
