00:00 Good afternoon to all of you, ADG John. Good afternoon to you.
00:05 And good afternoon to you too, Nina. Happy Monday.
00:07 It's a Monday. And of course, if we're together on Monday,
00:11 there's no one else but ADG John Malaya.
00:13 And you're just in time because of our news.
00:17 This latest incident about the West Philippine Sea,
00:20 our fishermen, how are they now?
00:24 Well, that's what we're taking care of because
00:28 we were hoping that this 2024, the West Philippine Sea will be quieter.
00:35 But in this last incident, where there was a robbery or harassment
00:41 of our fishermen by the Chinese Coast Guard,
00:46 we're taking care of this and we condemn this latest
00:51 provocative action on the part of the Chinese Coast Guard
00:54 against our fishermen.
00:56 Our fishermen are now home and are in good condition.
01:01 Did anyone get hurt because of this incident?
01:05 Yes, most of them are now home.
01:08 And we're thankful for the video.
01:12 Because if it wasn't for that video, we wouldn't have seen,
01:15 the people of the country wouldn't have seen the actions there.
01:19 They were stopped, the Chinese Coast Guard
01:24 and their shells were taken away.
01:30 Did they return the shells?
01:31 That's what they said, it's not clear if they returned it.
01:35 But that's what the CCG said, that they need to return the shells.
01:42 Our fishermen are pitiful.
01:45 That's what they need for their livelihood.
01:50 It's just a simple thing.
01:51 I hope that it will be fixed, especially now that it's the Chinese New Year.
01:56 We thought that the relationship between the two countries would be better.
02:00 But that's our wish for 2024.
02:04 Yes, actually, I hope that the beginning of the year will be better
02:09 because our missions to other features of our country became better.
02:16 And there was a bilateral consultation mechanism.
02:19 The Philippines and China in China.
02:22 Yes.
02:24 This was last week.
02:26 And here, there was a bilateral discussion
02:31 to have a deeper consultation and to lower the tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
02:37 Actually, I was happy when I read that news, ADG John.
02:42 But with this incident, how can we bring back that kind of diplomacy
02:49 when this is what they are doing to our poor fishermen?
02:53 Yes.
02:54 So, maybe, what we are talking about in China,
02:56 now that it's 2024 and they are celebrating the Chinese New Year,
02:59 I hope that they will take action on the ground.
03:04 Our discussion between the Philippine government and the Chinese government in China.
03:10 They should face this and I hope that moving forward,
03:14 the discussion will be implemented.
03:17 Because it is not in the interest of the Philippines nor with China
03:22 to raise tensions now in 2024.
03:25 Alright. Good luck with that, ADG John.
03:27 Thank you very much for sharing with us the update from the National Security Council.
