Bryan Snyder was shot in the heart protecting stranger from her psycho boyfriend in Topeka, Kansas on Monday.
Police have arrested Daniel Lynn Cregut for kidnapping his girlfriend and shooting Snyder. When the girlfriend came home from work around 10:30 a.m., Cregut was waiting inside. He kidnapped her at gunpoint.
Cregut agreed to let the woman pick up some cigarettes. But as Cregut pulled into the Huntoon Street Smoke Shop, she fled and took cover at the BP gas station.
Three men at BP helped her to hide in a locked room and it was time for Snyder to pull up his hero pants. Snyder held off Cregut at the entrance door, but Cregut fired through the glass.
A bullet struck Snyder in the hand, then nicked his heart, deflated a lung and hit his liver. Upon entering, the gunman pointed his weapon at Snyder's face, demanding to know where the woman was hiding.
Bulletproof glass protected the other two men from a pair of additional gunshots. The suspect fled the scene at the sound of sirens.
A SWAT team tracked Cregut to a home on S.W. Washburn, where he eventually surrendered wearing nothing but white shorts.
Cregut is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary, kidnapping, violating a restraining order and stalking.
