Solitude Carling Hot Six 1990

The Carling Hot Six in concert in 1990 in Kungshamn, Sweden
Gerd starts the Ellington composition on alto sax after which Max and Gunhild join.
I have many trumpet and cornet playing musician friends, but I have not met one who plays the horn with this kind of jazz feeling. It is just unimaginable that a 15 year old has managed to be able to play with so much maturity. Naturally she had support and found ideas , not just by listening and learning from the jazz masters, but also from her dad, Hans, who might be considered one of the best jazz players in Sweden
I would think that trumpet player Hans Carling's aim in life must have been to start a family band. Already in 1984 an Lp was made with this family band from Gothenburg Sweden.
Just recently Hans sent me a DVD of his family's performance in 1990. Hans plays piano, his wife Aina on banjo featuring their four children. In the years since 1984 they developed to an incredible level of musicianship. The encouraging Papa, the youngster's hard work and determination, exposure to music, being together to practice most of the time at home, but above all, the gift to be extremely musical and talented made this family outstanding.
Max (21) plays clarinet and tenor sax, Gerd (19) trombone, alt sax and piano, Gunhild (15) trumpet and trombone and Ulf ( yes, only 11) is the drummer.
I have heard people commenting that there is no bass, well that might well be, but it doesn't take anything away from their ability to swing and play darn hot.
I heard the band first in 1985 when Spiegle Wilcox told me about them, and they have been one of my favourite bands ever since.
