Former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has been trapped in a Moscow airport's transit zone for more than two weeks. Snowden arrived at Sheremetyevo, Moscow's main international airport on June 23. It was reported that Bolivia, Nicaragua and Venezuela have said they would accept Snowden and Snowden is allegedly on Venezuela. However, flying directly from Moscow to Venezuela will likely cross through the airspace of hostile European nations and the United States, meaning Snowden would likely be arrested if the plane is grounded. An alternative route would mean taking an almost 23000 km detour to fly cross the North Pacific Ocean to Venezuela. That would involve formally entering Russian territory, which the country has refused so far.
