A man has a basketball sized hernia after surgeries from drinking a contaminated beer.

One unfortunate man in Australia is living with a hernia on his belly which is about the size of an extra-large basketball.

The traumatic ordeal first started when 59-year-old John MacDonald accidentally dropped his beer in the Brisbane River. Not wanting to waste a drop, he scooped it out of the water and continued to drink.

That turned out to be a very bad decision, as he soon got violently sick from a stomach bug, as a result of the apparent contaminated river water. He underwent several surgeries to rid the bug when antibiotics didn’t work, but he soon developed an infection. Now he has the massive hernia, complete with raging red sores and scabs.

Doctors have informed him that he needs another half a dozen surgeries to fix the hernia. For now, MacDonald is stuck with the constant pain and discomfort.

In 2011, a 63-year-old California man, desperate to fix his stomach hernia, tried to conduct surgery on himself using a butter knife. Police arrived on scene and found the male with the knife sticking out from his stomach.

He was quickly taken to the hospital and later reported to be in stable condition.
