The War on Wild Pigs

A war is underway on wild pigs.

Feral pigs are a huge problem in various parts of the world.
The populations of the invasive species are exploding, and their way of life, which includes uprooting soil and leaving ecosystems destroyed, is taking its toll.

25 years ago, small bands of wild pigs were only known to be in 20 states in the US, now they are invading 47 states, with some reporting troubling population sizes that are affecting farm crops.

It is estimated that over 1 billion dollars worth of damage is done each year by wild boars in the US, and most of it is agricultural crop damage.

One notable act of wild boars causing major damage was at was at Jacksonville International Airport in Florida where an F-16 jet worth 16 million dollars was destroyed when it ran into a pack of wild boars on the runway.

Different methods are being used to try and tackle the wild pig population explosion, but they aren’t so easy to kill and their rate of reproduction is so high that populations are nearly impossible to control.

Even with on going eradication efforts, their population sizes continue to grow.
