Silverlake Sand Dunes Dirt Bike Crash

It was a beautiful day somewhere around 80 degrees out at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. Matt A. and Paul S. decided to bring Matt's motorcycle to the dunes for the weekend to ride. We spent most of our time finding new jumps in the sand and doing wheelies on the shoreline of Lake Michigan while recording ourselves to make a home made movie. I (Matt) found a jump close to the entrance of Silver Lake that was a pretty good size. We were hitting the jump over and over, getting faster and faster with every attempt. We ended up hitting the jump in 4th gear with the throttle pinned on My 2001 YZ 125 motorcycle with an estimated speed of about 40 MPH. I (Matt) started to hit it in 5th gear a little bit faster when Paul's family found us and decided to watch us jump. Paul jumped on the motorcycle and attempted to hit the jump even faster to show off for his family when all of a sudden he came off the lip of the dune a little sideways and crashed hard. I was recording him at the time and said "oh shit!", which you can clearly hear and instantly ran up to him. Paul was unconscious for a few seconds and was trying to breathe, which is the noise you can hear him making. His family and I called the ambulance right away. Paul was taken to the hospital where he suffered minor bruising to his ribs and a broken ego. Paul doesn't remember a thing from the crash. The next day we went right back to the dunes to do it all over again although Paul took it easy that day!
