A Gallup survey of over 353 thousand people in the United States has ranked the states based on how much stress they reported feeling.

People who participated in the survey were asked: “Did you feel stressed during a lot of the day yesterday?”

47 percent of people in West Virginia said yes, making them the most stressed out of all the states.

In the top five most stressed states along with West Virginia are Rhode Island, Kentucky, Utah, and Massachusetts.

Hawaii ranked as the least stressed out state with 67.9 percent of those who participated in the survey saying they didn’t feel stressed the day before.

Among the least stressed out states after Hawaii are Louisiana, Mississippi, Iowa, and Wyoming.

A study by Forbes magazine in 2011 that looked at the most stressful cities in America shows that Los Angeles tops the list followed by New York City and then Chicago.

The Forbes study looked at a collection of different data on the 40 largest cities in the US.

They reached their conclusions by looking at factors like unemployment, cost of living, housing, air quality, weather and vehicle traffic.
