Jurassic Park Dino Sound Effects Created From Animal Mating Sounds

Jurassic Park dino sounds included animal mating noises.

Since recording devices weren’t invented until the late 1870s and dinosaurs died off a really, really long time before then, how do we know what dinos sound like?

For many it’s because the creators of Jurassic Park told us they do. So, how did they come up with them?

Academy Award winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom traveled far and wide and even to some pretty interesting places to create the movie magic.

The velociraptor barks are fornicating turtles. The Gallimimus flock is a horse in heat – until one becomes lunch for a T.Rex, then an amorous dolphin plays the part.

Rydstrom didn’t travel down the path of lust for all of the noises.

The cute baby raptor is a blend of animal younglings including owls and foxes.

For a dinosaur sneeze, the designer concocted a mixture of whale blowhole and fire hydrant.

The ferocious T. Rex roars came from Rydstrom’s Jack Russell terrier, Buster, who is quite a star in his own right. He was also the voice behind the eyeball socket spike in Terminator 2.
