Water Park Has Live Mermaids

Check out a tour of Weeki Wachee Springs with mermaids.

For a fun spring activity, Weeki Wahcee Springs State Park is a great option. Located on the gulf coast of Florida, about an hour north of Tampa, it is referred to as City of Live Mermaids.

The distinctive roadside attraction is actually an enchanted spring. The Seminole Indians were responsible for giving the spring its unique name, but in 1946, a former Navy man who trained SEALs in World War II decided to make the beautiful spot a business venture.

The spring was turned into an underwater theater, featuring beautiful girls dressed and acting like mermaids.

The 538-acre park boasts a white sandy beach and the submerged theater which still puts on the stunning mermaid shows. The mermaids perform an underwater theatrical display, showcasing bikini tops and the typical fish tails. The ladies can hold their breath for more than 2 and a half minutes.

The water park also offers slides, a flume ride, a Caribbean cove, a trail and star garden.

Activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, animal shows and boat tours.
