Japan marks 2 yr quake anniversary

Japanese officials and residents mark the two year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that claimed the lives of some 20,000 people in the country's worst natural disaster in history.

On March 11th, 2011 a tsunami wave triggered by the 9.0 magnitude earthquake washed ashore and destroyed everything in it's path.

Further destruction in the form of a nuclear meltdown- major damage to the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Diaiichi nuclear power planet released radiation into the air and sea and prompted a nationwide backlash against the use of nuclear power.

On Monday, workers at the company's headquarters observed a moment of silence.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe posted a message on YouTube. "I promise to never forget the weight of each day, he said and promise to speed up reconstruction."
