A father dies protecting his own daughter in a blizzard.

Most parents would do anything to keep their children safe. In a heartbreaking report, a father in northern Japan perished after he shielded his daughter from the cold.

A blizzard struck the area bringing winds up to 67 miles per hour and temperatures as harsh as 21 degrees Fahrenheit. The man had picked up his child from school, but later called his relatives to inform them that his truck was stuck deep in snow.

He told them that he and his daughter would walk the remaining half a mile distance to get home. Tragically the pair was later found less than 1,000 ft from the truck.

The father was hunched over his daughter, holding her and he had given her his jacket to keep warm. The child was crying in his arms, but did not have serious injuries. Unfortunately, the father was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Several other fatalities were related to the extreme weather in Japan. A 40-year-old mother and her three children were found dead in a car that was buried under snow.

It is believed that they died from carbon monoxide poisoning as the car windows were up and its exhaust pipe was blocked with snow.
