A 79-year-old former model sues over 'Mad Men' credit photo.
Recently, a lawsuit was filed relating to the hit TV series ‘Mad Men’.
Gita Hall May worked as a fashion model and actress during the 1950s and 60s eras.
On the show’s opening credits is a photo of a brown haired, red lipped woman who is actually Gita. The picture was used in a Revlon ad in the early 1960s.
The former model is suing Lionsgate Entertainment, citing that she did not consent “to allow, forty years later, her image to be cropped from the photo, in secret, and inserted as a key element in the title sequence of a cable television series, without her consent and for commercial purposes”.
Mad Men’s opening won an Emmy in 2008 for outstanding main title design and the now 79-year-old is looking for compensation for the image.
Last year, a Columbia University graduate, Carolyn Giles initiated a lawsuit for over $20 million. After signing with Ford models, she was shocked to see one of her pictures taken for Volvo on a website promoting Swedish singles.
Giles claims the image usage was unauthorized and implied she was an escort. She was suing Volvo and Ford Models.
