UAE's Surprising Role in Joplin After Tornadoes

UAE played a surprising role in Joplin after tornadoes.

Joplin, Missouri was devastated by a tornado that killed 161 people and destroyed much of the town.

Six different schools were destroyed along with all of the learning materials.

Insurance payments covered the rebuilding of the schools, but not the textbooks that had been lost.

A representative from the United Arab Emirates Embassy, or UAE, offered to help the school system and the town to the tune of several million dollars in aid.

Now, around 22 hundred high school students in Joplin have MacBook laptops paid for by the UAE to use for school, including lessons, homework and tests.

Although the United States gives more foreign aid to other countries than any other country in the world, other nations have decided that parts of the US are in need of support from them.

Another example of a foreign country giving aid to the US is Ireland.

A predominantly Irish-American Queens neighborhood that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy is getting aid from the Irish government and donations from Irish celebrity fundraisers.

What do you think? Is it good for other countries to give economic aid to the United States?
