Mail Package Received After 63 Years

A mail package is finally received after 63 years.

Postal system is not known for its stellar speed.

Recently a mail piece in Pennsylvania made its way to The Times-Tribune's front desk.

What makes the incident so unusual is that the tube-like package had been mailed 63 years ago. Inside the tube was a Pennsylvania Railroad calendar for the year 1950 and it was originally sent to the now deceased general manager of the business which then called the Scranton Times. A publisher at the establishment opened the package.

The tube contained two four cent stamps and there was a new sticker from a distribution center in Pittsburgh, but post office officials were unable to track its history. A mail spokesperson claims that occasionally mail can get lost in dismantled machines or during building renovations and if the packages are found again, they are commonly just dropped back in the mail.

Despite the mystery, employees of the Times-Tribune vow to find the vintage calendar a good home.

Last year, a postcard which had been mailed in 1943 finally arrived to the intended address. Although a different family lived in the home as of 2012, the mail piece had been initially sent on July 4, 1943 to two sisters in New York.
