This picture, small in size, gave rise to a new and bright trend in art, “impressionism”. The canvas exhibited at the first exhibition of the “Anonymous Society of Artists” did not leave anyone indifferent. Some called it daub, others were delighted by it, and others still shrugged their shoulders in bewilderment. The picture was called “Impression, Sunrise.” Its author was a young French painter Claude Monet.
