Euripides (ñ. 480 - 406 B.C.) - Ancient Greek dramatist. He is acknowledged as one of the great tragedians of Athens. Today his tragedies have the same success as in the fifth century B.C., though at that time they incurred noble anger from both spectators and poetic competitors. Euripides is known primarily for having reshaped the formal structure of Athenian tragedy by portraying strong female characters and intelligent slaves and by satirizing many heroes of Greek mythology.
