Shingles Vaccine & Flu Shot

Dr. David Samadi, top prostate cancer surgeon, answers a Fox 5 viewer questions about combining the shingles vaccine with the flu shot vaccine. Dr. Samadi confirms that it is same to receive both shots on the same day and he encourages patients to do so. The shingles vaccine, he says, is FDA approved and is recommended for those over age 60, whether or not they’ve had chicken pox. Shingles is a condition whereby the dormant chicken pox virus is reactivated, for an unknown reason, causing a rash and painful blisters. The vaccine effectively reduces the length and severity of outbreaks. It is, however, a live virus vaccine so immuno-compromised patients should discuss it with their physician before receiving it.
