The items that thieves desire aren’t always high-end valuables or new, expensive gadgets.

One man in Siberia found himself in some trouble after allegedly stealing more than a ton of hay. He reportedly grabbed the hay from a local field, placed it in a trailer and dropped it off at his girlfriend’s house. The male suspect was detained and reportedly told police that he had gotten into a verbal fight with his partner and wanted to make things right with a surprise present of hay.

However, the sweet gesture didn’t work to his favor. The man now faces up to two years in jail for larceny charges.

In another report from last year, hay was the desired target for someone else as well. State Police in Connecticut claimed that someone had nabbed an astounding 400 bales of hay and two wagons from an animal sanctuary.

The front gate had been cut and a tractor was brought along for the theft. Officials believe multiple suspects were involved. The total loss between the stolen hay and wagons was estimated to be $10,000.
