Thousands without power as tornado hit New York

A rare tornado struck New York City on Saturday night as a line of fierce thunderstorms swept the region, knocking out power to thousands of homes.

With winds of more than 110 km/h, the first storm hit the borough of Queens. An equally powerful second struck Brooklyn just minutes later.
