Number 5 - Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms have been named from lists originally created by the National Hurricane Center. At present, the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva maintains these names.
Number 4 - Before 1978, hurricanes were named solely after women. This practice came to an end in 1979 with the inclusion of men's names.
Number 3 - Each name on the list starts with a different letter. The first hurricane of the season starts with "A", the next with "B" and so on. It is interesting to note that letters, Q, U, X, Y, Z are not included in the list.
Number 2 - There are a total of 21 storm names on the list each year. If there are more than 21 storms in a season, the names of the additional storms can be drawn from the Greek alphabets. Each list is recycled every 6 years. For instance, names that have been used in 2012 list will be used again in 2018.
