Thief Uses Chili Powder As Weapon - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

Robbers seem to come up with excessively creative and sometimes dangerous ways to get their desired items. An Abu Dhabi thief used chili powder as a weapon to temporarily blind jewelry salesmen so he could get his hands on gold ornaments. The robber posed as a customer on a Sunday and picked out some precious items, telling salespeople he would come back the next morning to pay cash. The bandit did return to the shop the next day, however instead of pulling out money from his pocket, he tossed a handful of chili powder into the faces of the salespeople and took off with the ornaments. The thief left the chili powder cover at the crime scene, allowing police to trace it to a local grocery store where he was identified on the surveillance tapes.

In another clever robbery, a Utah woman was charged with stealing a diamond engagement ring, valued at over $4,000 from a local Macy's store. Video surveillance showed the woman trying on a ring and then putting her hand to her mouth and reaching in her pocket before handing the ring back to an employee. Hardman later confessed to police that she had swallowed the Macy's ring and replaced it with a phony one.
