The horse is an equid and belongs to the equidae family. Horses are heavily build animals with a relatively big head and long members. They have a short, thick coat which is called topcoat. Most horse breeds have longer hair between their ears, in their neck, and at the tail, which is called forelock, mane and tail hair respectively. The horse uses the long hair mainly to keep away bothering insects. The topcoat and the long hair colors can vary from horse to horse. The horse colors are divided into 7 main color categories:black, grey, chestnut, bay, palomino, dun, and “paint”. However, many different combinations and shades are possible.The horse is a so-called “steppe animal“, which is why is it important for horse owners to make enough room, fresh air and light available for the horse.
