NASA Begins Relocation of Space Shuttle Engines From Kennedy to Stennis Space Center

The relocation of NASA's space shuttle main engine inventory from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Stennis Space Center in Mississippi is under way. On Jan. 12, one of the engines, which had been used to lift shuttles into orbit, was prepared for shipping in Kennedy's Engine Shop.
The RS-25D engines will be stored at Stennis for future use on NASA's new heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System. This rocket will carry NASA's new Orion spacecraft, cargo, equipment and science experiments to space, providing a safe, affordable and sustainable means of reaching asteroids and other destinations in the solar system.
