A one hundred year old dining carriage from the former Orient Express luxury train service has been restored to its original beauty. To celebrate its centenary, the dining car will run again on Friday night.

A hundred-year-old dining car that used to run with the legendary Orient Express across Europe, has regained its original shine in Hungary, after decades of neglect under communism, and following a slow recovery in the past twenty years.

Now it almost looks like it did 100 years ago and is ready to run on a birthday trip with today's Orient Express on Friday night.

[Lord Faulkner of Worcester, British MP and British Railways Heritage Advocate]:
"The amount of work that has gone into the restoration has been fantastic and what has been produced is one of the most beautiful railway coaches I have seen anywhere in the world.”

For the director of the present Orient Express the restoration was especially important:

[Claude Ginella, London to Venice Orient Express, Director]:
"To me it has a very big emotional importance because hundred years is not just a few years its quite long, long routes across Europe, all the history that goes with it, and also to bring back into the present something that was in the past which sometimes is very healthy.”

Down to the tiniest details, it retains the original features and has been authentically restored to its old look.

[Andras Szendrey, Hungarian Railway History Park, Director]:
"This carriage was very lucky because it's very rare that a railway carriage survives 100 years. Pyramids easily live 3,000 years but in railway history 150 years is a big thing. So a 100 year old vehicle which has the same beauty, same comfort and even speed as a hundred years ago is a big rarity.”
