The Hello Morning play music created by Melbourne songwriters Steven Clifford and Matthew John Smith. Essentially pop laden, soulful country tunes become psychedelic bliss-outs live, with the help of music-makers David Oxley, Dave Manton, Matt Vance and Joe Cope.
Armed to the teeth with numbers elegantly robust and organically haunting, carrying the old-guard swoon of acts like The Band or Neil Young and the determined swagger of newer blues statesmen like My Morning Jacket, The Hello Morning live and breathe their craft. The arrival of their self-titled debut album heralds the band as first-rate songsmiths and musicians.
The Hello Morning began as a stripped-back acoustic dabbling helmed by Steven Clifford and long-time collaborator Matthew John Smith. After teaming up with keyboardist Joe Cope The Hello Morning's ranks were soon rounded out, with bassist Dave Oxley and drummer Matthew Vance joining the group.
Turning heads with their self-produced EP, the group were picked up by Forum 5 and talk of an album soon followed. The albums foundations were laid down with Jimi Maroudas (The Living End, Eskimo Joe) at Melbourne's Sing Sing studios before the band spent two months in a bluestone cottage outside of Daylesford, Victoria, with Clifford and Cope overseeing additional overdubs. The next six months saw them back in the studio recording strings, horns and gaining gospel choir gold via Atlanta, Georgia.
The album was then mixed by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys) Steven Schram (Little Birdy, Little Red) and Lachlan Carrick (C.W.Stoneking) and mastered by Steve Smart. Now, finally, this project snowballing in time and ambition has finally landed. It's been a long time coming, but it's been done well, it's been done properly, and it's about to count a whole lot.
