Supporters of Vladimir Putin were also out on Moscow's streets but this time there was a mood of celebration.

Putin, who secured almost 64 per cent of votes in Sunday's election, portrayed his return for a third term as president as a victory over those whom he said were trying to undermine the Russian state.
