Davy Jones dies, Dion cancels shows

Davy Jones, former lead singer of the 1960s made-for-television pop band The Monkees, died on Wednesday (February 29) at a hospital in Florida, reportedly of a heart attack. Jones, who was born in Manchester, England, became the principal teen idol of the rock quartet featured on the NBC comedy series "The Monkees," which ran from the fall of 1966 to August of 1968. Some of the band's biggest hits included "Daydream Believer" and "I'm a Believer." He was 66.

Celine Dion has canceled two months worth of performances at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace, citing a virus causing an inflammation of her vocal cords. The French-Canadian pop superstar has been ordered to rest her voice for six to eight weeks and will resume performances on June 9. The Las Vegas Strip casino spent $95 million building the Colosseum for Dion in 2003, complete with a humidifier to protect her voice.

A collection of 15 Oscar statues sold for more than $3 million at an auction in Los Angeles, just two days after the Academy Awards took place. The sale included Oscars for the films "Wuthering Heights" and "Citizen Kane." The highest bid in the online auction went to Herman Mankiewicz's Oscar, which he won in 1941 for the screenplay to "Citizen Kane." It sold for just over $580,000.

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan says she is putting her bad girl image behind her and starting a fresh chapter in life, getting back to acting after recent years of personal turmoil that included arrests and stints in jail. The 25-year-old told Matt Lauer of NBC's "Today" show that parties were "not my thing anymore" and that she was more comfortable being a "homebody." Lohan has gotten rave reviews at recent probation status hearings and is also in talks to be cast as screen icon Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming film.
