Restaurant Etiquette for Kids - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. When you go to a restaurant, you want to have a relaxing and enjoyable time. And in order to do that, it would be helpful if your children have polite table manners and restaurant etiquette. So here are a few tips to help you and your children. First of all you want to remind your children that they need to stay seated, at the table or in their booth. The only reason they need to get up is to go to the restroom. The children actually should not even turn around and look behind them when they are sitting in a booth. Also, if something falls on the floor, that is a time that you can just ask the waiter for something new. There is too many germs on the floor, and it is really just proper to ask the waiter to bring you something else. Now children also sometimes have the habit of playing with the things on the table. But is you have young children and you think there is going to be a long wait, then I would recommend that you bring something like a book or something quiet for them to play with at the table, to keep them occupied until the until the food is served. Then when the food is served, you can just put that away. Now, before you go to a restaurant, you are going to want to teach your children the basics of table manners. It is really very easy. Now, a couple of things you are going to want to tell them is to sit up straight in their chair, to take their napkin and put it in their lap. And then to really know how to navigate the silverware that is on the table. So, for example, you have two size forks. The smaller one is for the appetizer, typically a salad if it is served before the meal. And the larger spoon is for soup. Now, this is the main course fork and the main course knife, and the silverware at the top is for dessert. This is their bread plate, and obviously, their plate and water glass. Now, throughout the meal they are also going to remember to keep their elbows off the table until after the dessert and all of the dishes have been cleared. They will also going to want to still remember their manners and say please and thank you and to chew with their mouth closed. So some of these simple tips will make it so that everyone has a wonderful and enjoyable experience when dining in a restaurant.
