Home Design Mistakes - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. One of the questions that is the most common is the mistakes that people make when designing their homes. In fact I believe that one of the mistakes is that people are so overwhelmed in their lives, particularly people in big cities. They have no time to do it and the mistake is not doing it. And people end up living in places where they feel so disconnected. It does not really matter the budget. Designers can help anybody within a certain range. And also do-it-yourselfers, as long as you are inspired and that is why I think that people have to find their inspiration and you can find it too. That is why I talk to a lot of my clients and a lot of the people that I get to meet, saying that you have to connect with the things that you love. For Example, this is a place where someone lived for a while. There was a lot of clutter, there was a lot of lack of design. Of Passion, etc, because she was so busy. It is not a judgmental thing, it is more like the lack of time. And that is when a designer can help because this is what we do for a living. That is when we come and help you and give you inspiration. Either through a lot of pictures, through our websites or when you get to work one on one with a designer that you hire. So for example, what we can do to make a place come alive is just really transform a space. And this where you can get inspiration and this is where we get the kick. This is like the most exciting thing is to get to turn a room into something as inspirational as this. With incredible wallpaper, beautiful furniture, paint and things like that, that can turn a room alive. Another common mistake that people do is, sort of, postponing everything until the kids are older and things like that. That the truth of the matter is that it is up to the parents to teach the kids to be good to the things they have around themselves. I am a Mom, I have two very young toddlers. They run around and they do mad and crazy things. And I have taught them how to love and appreciate the things that they have. That is one of the things that I am mostly proud and one of the things that I would like to instill in them for the rest of life. Is to take care of the things that are material and that can survive for generations to come. Not because I am attached to material things but because I think it is good for them to value those things. Another common mistake that people do is thinking that art is an after-thought. For me, art is a very integral part of interior design. I have been working with collectors, collecting myself and there is this misconception of having to spend a lot of money to have a nice piece of art. And the truth is there is a lot of different sources and a lot of different artists that you can have in your home for very little money and that can be very fulfilling and that can be very beautiful.
