Every year Formula 1 returns to the Cote d'Azur, paying a visit to the city of the rich and beautiful. Among the drivers the Monaco Grand Prix is very popular, as many of them are based here. Preparations for the spectacle begin. The organisers use crash barriers and fences to provide safety for the drivers and fans and create space for 200,000 people, around 6.5 times the number that actually live in Monaco. Around the narrow roads hitting the barriers is a constant threat. Precision driving is called for, as here in Mirabeau and the hairpin that follows. The drivers brake down here to under 50 km/h. Its also the slowest part of the circuit. But, after the next right-hander its then off into Monacos legendary tunnel.
