Picking Art for Living Room

Picking Art for Living Room - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. People ask me: What are the factors to consider when picking art for the living rooms? This example for what I can think about right now is living rooms are places where you are hanging out. Living rooms are places to entertain. Living rooms are places that really can tolerate a lot and so, if you can buy big and bold, that is where I would say to you to go for. Living rooms are also places for sculptures because it is a little odd to have a sculpture in a bathroom, for instance. So, you can always go with something with height. I like this sculpture because there is something beautiful about it but there is also something funky and ugly about it. It does not necessarily feel as perfectly static and connected to the rest of it. So, I like to have art that could be a little contradictory and it comes from different places. It opens my eyes and my view to the room and to the world. So, this, for example, was by a South African artist and it comes from the most remote place and it still co-exists with things like this, for example, which is by a Brazilian artist, Os Jemus. These are twin brothers who would spend their lives traveling around the world and painting graffitis and they are considered street artists but they do also, thing that can come to a living room. So, I like to think of a living room of a place where you are hanging out with things that you love the most and where you can have stuff that is going to trigger a reaction from your friends and your family and conversation pieces. It is quite important nowadays to have conversations around a living room. We have lost that. Everybody is connected to the internet. Everybody is watching things with that remote in their hands. Stop that for a little bit and just hang out and be happy and surround yourself with things that engage your eye, engage your heart and talk to your kids about it. Talk to your family about it. Enjoy art. Those are a few of the things that I think people should consider when buying art for the living room.
