OUSD Police Protest

Public protest over promotion of Sgt. Barhin Bhatt to interim police chief for Oakland Unified School District Police Department. In January of 2011, Bhatt killed Raheim Brown Jr. by shooting him multiple times, including twice in the head, alleging that he did so in defense of his partner, Sgt. Jonathan Bellusa, whom he says was stabbed by Brown with a screwdriver, despite the fact that Bellusa was never treated for any form of wound, either by paramedics on the scene or by physicians at a hospital. Bhatt's promotion comes on the heels of former chief Pete Sarna stepping down amidst investigation into a racial harassment suit filed against Sarna by an African American fellow officer.
