Chinese Vice President Li Keqiang has been in Hong Kong this week, focusing on economic development. However his trip attracted protests calling on the Chinese regime to end its persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice. Here's more on the story and the controversy surrounding it.

The vice premier of China's state council, Li Keqiang, is visiting Hong Kong, focusing on economic development. But Chinese officials visiting outside the Mainland often attract protests, and Li's visit to Hong Kong is no different.

Practitioners of the persecuted spiritual practice Falun Gong were outside Li's hotel to get their message across. They want those who started the persecution to be brought to justice... among them, former CCP leader Jiang Zemin.

[Lu Jie, Hong Kong Falun Gong Practitioner]:
"They must be brought to justice, the persecution of Falun Gong must be stopped, this major decision must be made immediately, otherwise heaven will not tolerate it. Right now various groups in the international community are investigating these people. Whenever these high level Chinese Communist officials leave the country, they encounter lawsuits."

Practitioners say Li tried to avoid their protest.

[Fu Xueying, Hong Kong Falun Gong Practitioner]:
"Because he has persecuted Falun Gong, he feels persecuted. Someone just came over and told us that his car just passed by and after it saw the banner reading 'Falun Dafa is Good' it immediately turned around."

The persecution of Falun Gong has now lasted for 12 years in mainland China and over three thousand deaths have been recorded. This year a resolution was proposed in the U.S. Senate calling for the persecution to end.
