Common Foods Misperceived as Healthier Options - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. It can be hard when you go into the grocery store today because a lot of the items that seem like they are healthy actually are not. Let's talk about some of the ones that actually are not that healthy for you. You can find a lot of these preservatives and chemicals, things that you do not necessarily want to be ingesting, in protein powders and protein bars. A lot of them are packed with sugar and packed with chemicals and preservatives. You can also find them down the chip aisle with the vegetable chips that are coming out today that are supposedly a lot better for you than the potato chips. Well, potato is a vegetable too so technically we could call a potato chip a vegetable chip. It depends on the oil they are using and the way that they are frying them whether or not they are healthier so beware of that. Down the cereal aisle, you can also find a lot of these fake healthy foods. You want to take a look at the ingredient labels. A lot of them are, the first ingredient is sugar. Down the frozen food aisle, Lean Cuisines and other frozen dinners often are packed with preservatives as well as sodium, which can really hinder you when you are trying to lose weight. You end up bloating and feeling like you are heavier. Another food that may seem healthier but actually is not healthy for you is in the dairy aisle - margarine. It may seem like it is healthier for you because it has less saturated fats but the hydrogenated oils that are in it are actually going to clog up your arteries and cause plaque buildup and heart disease. So a general rule of thumb is - the more natural it is, the less things added to it, it is going to be healthy for you.
