Running Tips in Hot Weather - part of the women's fitness video series by GeoBeats. When you are running in very hot weather, you have to be very careful about keeping yourself hydrated, obviously. You want to make sure that you either carry a hydration belt, which is a belt that goes around your waist and you can put in, little pockets for water and sports drinks. You want to make sure that you are fueling yourself properly and hydrating yourself properly. Number two, you also want to make sure that you are wearing clothing that is very nice and cool that it can wicks away sweat. Make sure that it is not tight. Actually, what I am wearing, cotton, is not the best thing to wear when it is a very warm weather. You want to wear, it is called dry fit. There is different names, but sweat wicking away materials. Also, you want to dress as if it is about 15 degrees warmer than it is. So, let’s say it is 70 degrees out today. You should be wearing clothes as if it were 85 degrees, because that is about what your body temperature is going to rise to from running. And obviously your body temperature rises, or the way the air feels, rises while you’re running. Also, consider running early in the morning or later in the day when the sun is not at its peak. It will be cooler and you will feel that difference. Finally, run by the beach. Run in a shaded forest. Find areas that are cooler. I mean, you donot want to just run through the center of the city during the hottest part of the day. It is better to really consider driving the extra 15 minutes to the trails that are covered or the beach, or somewhere where it is a little bit cooler. So, the time of day, where you run, how you hydrate yourself and fuel yourself with water and food, as well as what you wear, those are extremely important things to consider when it is a very hot day.
