A blast in the Pakistani city of Peshawar targets a U.S. consulate convoy, killing one and wounding ten. Pakistan's Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Friday, a car bomb targeted a U.S. consulate convoy in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing one Pakistani passer-by and wounding 10 others.

One American was slightly wounded in the attack.

The two consulate vehicles were heading to the consulate when one of the vehicles was hit by the blast.

The attack took place on a main road in the northwestern city. The car used in the attack was parked on a road when the bomb exploded, forcing the consulate vehicle to slam into an electricity pole.

[Sherzad, Witness]:
"I was on my way to work in this area. As I passed through, a big explosion occurred. I could not see anything for a while, the smoke was everywhere. Then I saw this car standing by the pole."

A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident is the latest in an upsurge of violence since al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed earlier this month.
