THE WORKERS’ / RADNIČKA HRONIKA
text by Petar Mihajlović
directed by Ana Djordjević

The Workers’ Chronicle has something of a documentary drama. It talks about the contemporary social situation often reported by the media – a long-term strike of workers at a factory that collapsed in the attempt of owner transfer. The author speaks with compassion, understanding and irony about the current, topical social event. He notes an important paradox: people in these social conflicts do not have identity in spite of the fact that each participant has a specific personal drama. By laughing at the characters of The Workers’ Chronicle, we are, in fact, laughing at ourselves, and this is a laughter that hurts. The Workers’ Chronicle was awarded as the best original contemporary text at the Sterijino pozorje 2009 Competition.
